It took me a long time to decide between the sleeve and bypass. What made me make a decision was speaking to an oncologist who said that there are certain cancer medications that bypass patients can't take. (no other forms of these drugs available, please don't ask me the names, I can't remember). I didn't want to be put in a position that I regretted my surgery choice because I couldn't have a medication that I needed. So I chose the sleeve. I love my sleeve, I'm confident I've made the right decision for me.

Good luck on your journey.

I chose RNY because my surgeon told me tgat with my T2D that is what he recommends... because with RNY patients have significant reduction of insulin resistance b4 significant weight loss. Without T2D I would have prolly gone with sleeve.

I have type 2 diabetes. So when it came down to it, I chose gastric bypass. Sw 248, cw 183, goal 150-160. My surgery date was September 18,2017. So glad I went this route. No longer on diabetic medicine.. yippee. It's a tough decision, but I am glad of the one I made.

Thanks everyone for their input! I have decided on the sleeve. It seemed less evasive, and a quicker healing time. I am like a grown man with the sniffles when I'm sick. It's like the end of the world!

Surgery is 2/22, wish me luck!

Of course the decision is yours to make, but for me i feel like i wasted a lot of time and money on the lap band. I wish i had done the rny from the start. I had rny two days ago. My dr said that with my sugar addiction that rny would be more effective for me. I am feeling great so far. No pain, just a bit of pressure from gas, and some nausea.

This surgery is just a tool. You can still fail even with a bypass. The point is to invest the money to help you make that change. Only you can throw it away. For me, this is a lot of money. I can’t imagine that I’d spend this much and throw it away. For this kind of money, I could pay almost a years worth of my mortgage. That is what is keeping me motivated. I still need to do the work no matter which one I get.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
