12 weeks out, another infection

Recommended Posts

Hi! I’m new here and would really appreciate some help/advice. I’m 12wks out and have had several complications: allergic reaction to staples, cellulitis at incision, infection drainage twice and today I had to have another CT & started two new antibiotics because the dr thinks I have another infection under my incision. I have constant pain around my incision and over to the right side. It’s extremely painful and very sensitive to touch. Is it possible to get an infection under my incision 12 weeks later from just the incision, that seems completely healed on the outside?

Has anyone had similar problems? Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Cellulitis is a type of bacterial skin infection. Since it was at your incision and since you had the infection drained twice, it seems logical that they would treat it with antibiotics. So even though the incision seems completely healed on the outside, the bacterial infection may have entered you blood and spread throughout your body. Also the point of drainage is a point of penetration into your body and the infection might spread through this opening.

Once you come off the antibiotics, it is important to take Probiotics. Antibiotics kill not only the bad germs but also the good gut bacteria. Probiotics restore these colonies of good bacteria. According to the internet: The vast majority of bacteria are harmless to people and some strains are even beneficial. In the human gastrointestinal tract, good bacteria aid in digestion and produce Vitamins. They also help with immunity, making the body less hospitable to bad bacteria and other harmful pathogens. When considering all the strains of bacteria that exist, relatively few are capable of making people sick.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
