I'm 10 days post op today and I'm having trouble getting in all of my Protein and Water for the day. My doctor didn't give me a minimum caloric intake at this point but said i should have about 3 oz per meal. According to my doctor I can start soft solids today. I'm getting in roughly 200 calories/day and around 30 grams of protein and about 24-30 ounces of water.

I'm afraid that I won't be losing weight well, if I don't up my protein/ calorie/ water but I'm very very afraid not to stretch my pouch.

So here's my question how many calories should I eat at this point? And should I keep eating to get in enough protein even if I'm not hungry?

I would appreciate any input, thanks!

Hi Lilly

I am 13 days post surgery. I don’t think I have been hungry yet, but am pushing myself to get that Protein in. I am getting about 40g in a day, gently that is increasing.

On my plan I can eat yoghurt, cottage cheese, today I had a small soft egg. My calories are at 400-500 a day on that and one Protein Drink.

I think push yourself for just the 64oz Water, and towards the 60g protein, whether you want it or not. If I wake in the night? Few sips of water. First thing in the morning, last thing at night. Dehydration is a bummer...

I'll definitely try and push myself to get the Protein and Water in. I was just a little worried abou stretching my pouch... maybe I'm just a little paranoid :)

you're physically not going to be able to eat enough to worry about calories at this point - that comes later. Definitely push the fluids, and aim to work up to at least 60 g of Protein a day (or whatever your surgeon recommended). That's the most important goal this early out.

I will do just that, thanks! But it's not exceeding calorie intake I'm worried about, rather stretching my pouch by trying to force eat to meet Protein goals

liquids won't stretch it. Constantly overeating solid foods might - but if you're following your plan's guidelines, you'll be fine.

You would have to really work to stretch your pouch, to the point of eating to beyond full pretty much constantly.

At this point just focus on getting as close to those goals as possible because Water and Protein not only fuel weight loss but also they will help the overall healing process. I didn't count calories early out but my NUT wanted me up to about 600 a day by the time I was on soft solids and to get up to 1200 calories by 6 months so calories will come later but at this point just focus on water and protein.

I am one week post-op and have pretty much met Protein goals, but have fallen short on fluids. For the protein goals, I chose to use Fairlife non-fat milk to mix my Protein Powder - 1 1/4 cup of Fairlife non-fat milk = 16.2 grams of protein + 2 scoops of protein powder (for example Chike coffee powder) = 20 grams of protein. In one drink, I am getting 36.2 grams of delicious protein. You may want to try using Fairlife milk.

Thanks for your input girls!

I'm a little over a month out and I still have never met my Water goal of 64 oz but I'm getting closer each day, as for Protein I'm getting 60-65 grams in a day, which I'm hoping is sufficient. I'll give Fairlife a try if I find it, but finding it in Canada has been tough so far, I can't even find Premier Protein shakes here.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
