How many fills before good restriction?

Recommended Posts

I have had two fills, and I am at about 2.5cc in my band. Just wondering how many of you received how many fills and when did you feel that it was actually working and restricting the amount you eat. I am still eating quite normal with these two fills. I have a 10cc band and have a lot to go, but just wondering when does it get to where I can eat 1/2 cup of food only? I want to continue losing weight and I'm stuck at 20 lbs.

It took me 5 fills to finally get good restriction. I believe I have seen people go up to 7 ccs or so with your band size. It may take you several months to get there if that is the case. Good luck.

I've had good restriction after every fill, even the very first, but it doesnt last.

But when I was heavier, I could eat more and still lose, so good restriction didnt need to be very tight. Then I'd lose weight, my band would loosen and I'd need a tweak PLUS I'd need a little more becuase my calorie needs had dropped and I needed to eat less.

Now, I've got 3 ml in a 4ml band which was VERY tight for a little while there, nowadays its much less so and I"m not sure whether that's why I've been eating quite a bit more over the past few weeks or whether I've just been slipping into a few lazy habits.

I have a 4cc band and it took three fills to notice anything and the fourth fill was just a "top off" to perfection.

Diva,

so what your saying is you have a total of 6cc's in your 10 cc band so it took that much fill to finally feel restricted? I am going for my second fill weds i wonder if i should tell my doc fill it up lol? this is nuts over the past few weeks i'm eating more and more not bad foods just more portion wise of proper foods can't wait until my next fill 5 more days and counting.

Cin - Your experience is typical. Believe me, when you actually GET restriction, you're gonna KNOW it! I was sure that with my first fill they just waved the needle over my stomach and then said "Ok, that's the first fill. See ya later.." I mean, there was ZERO change. Hang in there....one of these days you're gonna actually go "So THAT'S what restriction means!!!!"

I'm not going to be in any hurry. I don't want to get stuck or PB any more than I have to. My fills are free for the first year and I'll be glad to keep going back a little at a time. I'm not even going to weigh myself in order not to obsess over whether I'm losing. I'll find out about my weight loss, if any, when I get to the doctor's office. Hopefully, I'll be able to tell before then, though, by how my clothes are fitting!

I also have the 10cc band. I have had three fills but only 2.5cc so far. My dr is very conservative with the fills which is a good thing because my last fill was on 10/25/07 but boy can I feel it. And she only put in .5cc more. But before this fill I was eating alot more than I should have been able to. What I am trying to say is everyone is different and the more weight you lose the looser the band will get and you will need more fills.

Good luck.

I had my first fill about 2 weeks ago and had 4 cc's put into a 10cc band. I can eat anything and have been very careful to not eat more than 1100 calories, but haven't lost a thing since I was filled.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
