Getting banded in November, Reality Setting In!

Recommended Posts

I'm being banded on the 14th. For some reason I'm not really nervous about actually being banded. What I'm really really really nervous about is the recovery. I'm a total wimp when it comes to pain.

I'm getting banded on the 15th - we'll have to keep in touch since are band dates are only a day apart. I just got the news from the insurance company today - holy makrol, it's really going to happen! I've been waiting for this approval for what seems like forever and it's finally here.

Have you started your pre-op diet yet? I start mine next week and I'm a little nervous about dropping the 13 pounds the doc told me I had to lose in order to have my surgery. Maybe we can keep each other on task???

Erenne - CONGRATS on the approval! :whoo:

No I haven't really started my diet yet. I'm trying to replace one meal a day with a shake. Slowly trying to ease into it. Pre-op starts Monday. I thought I would be dreading it but I'm actually looking forward to it. I'll probably think different come Tuesday when I'm starving....

My doc didn't give me a certain amount to lose but I would love to get off 15 or so before the big day.

Are you going to start exercising when you start the pre-op? I figure this is my week to be fat and lazy and next week starts the beginning of the rest of my new skinny life. I won't ever have to look at those numbers on the scale again!

I'm getting banded on the 1st. I saw Dr. Ganta last Friday, as well as the nutritionist. I saw the psychologist on Tuesday. I go to my GP tomorrow to see if he will order my labs so that my insurance will pay for it. I hope to get those labs the same day. I go to the hospital Monday for my pre-op check-in. I see Dr. Ganta again Tuesday for my pre-op examination. And FINALLY, the surgery at 7 a.m. Thursday.

I teach at a community college and have a really tight schedule so working all of these appointments in has been hectic. I am cancelling classes on two days, Thursday and Monday, and going back on Tuesday, November 6. I've announced the cancellation to my classes and one student raised his hand and asked why I was having surgery! I told him I wasn't planning on discussing it. Then another student, who is older than I am, asked me privately if I was okay, that she was worried because she has a friend who just found out she had cancer. I went ahead and told her what I was doing and she was supportive. I haven't even told my mother and in-laws yet! :omg:

November 12th for me! My big fear is finding things to eat afterwards! I am a fast food junkie and don't like to cook. I fear I'll have to live on Protein Bars and shakes and don't even know if I'll find any I like. I guess it's time to start experimenting with different ones before the surgery. Any favorites?

Hi All.

This is my first post on here. I've been reading everyones entry's so I figured, with my operation scheduled for 2 weeks away, I would post a quick hello. I start the pre op liquid diet next Wednesday which I am very nervous about. I tend to get severe headaches when I drastically change my diet like I'm going to have to start next week. I'm an emotional basketcase lately and have my doubts every day if i'm making the right decision; even though deep down I know its the best thing for me and my family. I'm the most concerned that I made the right decision to go with the Band vs the Bypass. Is the success rate the same? What will I eat after the initial 6 weeks of healing and diet? I LOVE fast food and sugary drinks and dont have much time to cook with two active kids and a career. I'll stop babbling now.... Good luck to everyone!!!

I hope I am. Waiting on insurance. Can I ask a dumb question? The littler tickler on the bottom of your signature line, I for the life of me can't figure out how to place it there. All I keep getting is the text? Can you help, is it a HTML or something different?

Jenn 3802 I could have written that message myself. I am a little over 2 weeks out from surgery and having every thought you are. What made me go with Lap Bad is I know a few rue en y patients who kept bad habits and got heavy again. With the Lap Band I figure you can always go in for a fill.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
