Has anyone had redness and itching around their incisions?

I had lovely neat, well-sewn (well-sutured) incisions. These closed and sealed beautifully after nine to ten days. The stitching thread fell away between 12 and 14 days.

I rubbed the incisions with a little extra virgin olive oil most days.

ZERO itching.

A residue of red/purple skin colour at all six incision sites.

They didn't use stitches to close it ...they used some type of glue like substance and then it falls off after awhile
But it's just all red around it

I did too and I didn't take benadryl because I assumed it was because of normal healing (like any other itchy cut) so I very carefully cleaned the areas with alcohol and it helped a ton.

Can you try a topical Benadryl? You are probably reacting to the glue. I have had reactions to adhesives for years. Those are usually worse than whatever was being removed or stitched up.

Also, maybe some coconut oil. That seems to be a miracle solution to a lot of things :)

If the redness spreads, and the incisions start to feel hot...have them looked at. A little redness and itching is pretty normal. Mine are starting to look terrific (3 weeks out)...but for a while after I took the bandages off, they were pretty red and itchy.

I have a little redness and itching as well. I am allergic to the surgical tape they used and I haven't called the doctor yet because for me I know that's what it is. I also am allergic to Benedryl.

Like most everyone else said, it's probably the glue. My incisions are still itchy where there are residual pieces of the dermabond.

Is your skin yellowing around the incisions, too? I assume it's bruising

Yes, that is almost certainly the evolution of a bruise.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
