Sip sip here sip sip there

My wife purchased a 250mL size glass of white moscato for me at our anniversary dinner on Saturday night.

It arrived at the table at 8:05pm. I had a few sips.

8:20pm: I ate six natural oysters.

8:40pm: More small sips of moscato.

8:55pm: Seafood bisque placed before me. (This took nearly 25 minutes to 'process'.)

9:30pm: Resumed sipping moscato.

9:55pm: Left restaurant.

(A medium-large glass of wine used to take me 8-15 minutes to consume. I used to drink with my food, NOT in defined spaces/gaps between food.)

My doctor told me to wait 6 months before having any liquor and 1 year before any liquor with carbonation (beer, campaign and mixers with seltzer/soda). I've had wine maybe a handful of times and a couple mixed drinks here and there. I can't even finish a glass anymore and usually sip about half and pass it to my hubby. It doesn't effect my tolerance but I feel I'm wasting space in my small belly.

So funny how all doctors seem to be different in their protocol. Mine said just 6 weeks for carbonated alcohol and only 5 weeks for non-carbonated! Had no adverse effects.

It takes me nearly an hour to drink a 150mL (5 fl.oz) white wine ... sip 3mL ... swallow ... sip 3mL ... swallow ... sip 3mL ... swallow ... pause 1-2 minutes ... <REPEAT>

I've found that my doctor tends to run middle of the road but leaning towards the stricter side of things in most cases. Especially carbonation, which he said is more of a discomfort causing space issue, his words

I feel you! I would be there all night if I drank the whole thing and since I don't like to drink on an empty stomach, never had, and I cant eat and drink at the same time it would be a marathon of sipping, waiting, biting, waiting and repeat

There are many reasons for the disparity in alcohol consumption. A surgeon may specialize in patients with exceedingly high BMI. Those patients with so much extra fat will have massive quantities of hormones stored. When the rapid weightloss starts, hormone levels can skyrocket. Add a barbiturate to the mix and you can have extreme mood swings and/or depression. We see it all the time on here with comments laden with attitude or excessive weepiness.

Add to that the lay persons understanding of what is happening, it is just easier to say "Don't drink booze because it causes heartburn." or something else that is simple to understand. Better to just avoid alcohol until the major physiological changes are done and hormone levels return to normal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
