Bleeding post surgery

Recommended Posts

Just had my GS surgery on 12/19/17 and went to bathroom and started bleeding bright blood. I haven't menstruated for 6 months..but this is very bright red blood not my normal cycle symptoms..is it possible to be bleeding from somewhere else?

If it's coming out of your vagina...it's menstruation. They don't go anywhere near your reproductive organs with the surgery, so it's not the result of anything surgical.

Your hormones can be totally screwy after a surgery. I was due my period on the 11th. It showed up finally, over a week late....and weird and heavy. So...yeah...that kinda stuff can happen, particularly if you've been missing months and months of periods.

OH! Keep in mind you've had some anticoagulant shots to prevent blood clots over the course of your surgery....that could certainly effect how your lining is shedding, get something going...., or make a fibroid bleed like crazy....all sorts of options.

Since you have irregular periods, I would suggest paying a visit to your gyno and getting checked out. Just make sure all is well and you don't have anything major going on.

As long as you're not bleeding enough to drench more than one pad/tampon every couple of hours.....I'd hang in there and phone the office in the morning. I'm guessing that anticoagulation drug has something to do with what you're experiencing.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
