Medical Leave from Work

Recommended Posts

How much time did you all take off for work if you’re a full-time employee?

I know they say 2-4 weeks for recovery but my biggest concern is the fatigue and getting all my fluids and Protein in so I took 6 weeks, with the option to return earlier if I feel up to it. My job is super fast-paced and stressful and while not physically demanding, it’s mentally draining and I worry about going back before I’m ready, hence the 6 weeks.

I timed mine right before the holidays so I could take an extra week and do three instead of the recommended two. I'm 8 days post-op and honestly could have gone back by now, but I do get quite tired if I am out and about for a few hours.

I'm planning on at least 3 weeks, but will take longer if needed. I'm mostly at a desk but my job has the potential to involve heavy lifting from time to time so I don't want to go back until I won't risk injuring myself.

I wanted to go back after one week but I felt fatigued. I stayed out two weeks and had no problems. It seems being tired right after surgery is to be expected and the norm.

If you can afford it taking the extra time is worth it. I chose to take 4 weeks off so I could adjust and develop new habits. I was really glad I did, and I actually would have liked to stay home a week or two longer. I did fine going back when I did but got tired easily.

My opinion....two weeks is the minimum you should take. At two weeks your brain is working again, you're getting some calories in and feeling much more like yourself.

Before two weeks? Just too much brain haze and fatigue to be good for you. The last thing you want to do is catch a flu while your body is still stressed and make the whole situation worse.

I think three weeks is perfect if you can swing it.

Anything more than three is pure vacation. Not that there's anything wrong with vacation. Vacation is a good thing!

I’m taking 3 weeks off. I could have gone back after one week really. My doctor wanted me to take 5 weeks off. But the extra time is helping me develop a routine and get comfortable with my new eating habits.

I had my surgery on Friday and was back to work on Tuesday for a half day. I did another half day on Wednesday then was back to full time by Thursday. I have an office job that isn't too physically demanding and my recovery went really well, though.

I have a physically demanding job, and I'm going back after two weeks. I'd take six if I could though, so more power to you! I think the additional time will definitely help you get used to life with the sleeve. I'd caution against complacency though; I've been off work for long stretches and it was so hard going back. Best wishes for your recovery!

Mine was last Tuesday (12/12) and I went back to work this Tuesday. My only issue was last night when I got home I felt tired but I feel great ultimately. Everyone’s different just listen to your body good luck!

I have a very technical, demanding desk based job. I took 2 weeks off but honestly could have gone back after 3 -4 days. I had the sleeve.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
