Cam Paige 11 Posted December 20, 2017 I am at the low end of the spectrum in terms of BMI. I am really struggling with my pre op diet, it seems that I am having a lot of trouble not cheating. Mostly, I have drank soda and eaten things I immediately regret. I'm less than a week away from surgery and suddenly I'm doubting this procedure which I've worked so hard to get. I put in so much money to get here and put up with so many needles despite my need phobia. I feel completely lost and like maybe I am not cut out for this journey. Both of my parents have been successful but I wonder if I'm prepared to take this step. I thought I was ready but if I can't stop eating then maybe I'm not. STLMOCRITTER 7 Posted December 20, 2017 I’m only on day 2 and I cheated on day one. I feel like my head is going to explode and I may gnaw someone’s arm off. 2 Holls06 and MissSimpson reacted to this
Brittanyblue 55 Posted December 20, 2017 I am on day 7/14 and i cheated on day 2. I haven't cheated sense. After the 2 day detox period and you finding what satisfies you for the moment will be where its at! I was raging the first during the 2 day detox period. It does get easier as you go. Just power through! you wont regret it! 2 STLMOCRITTER and sharkweek reacted to this
MissSimpson 81 Posted December 23, 2017 I’ve chewed a lot of sugar free gum. Ate a couple handfuls of almonds and some green Beans. This is technically cheating, since I’m on a liquid diet. This is my 2nd day. 1 MissSimpson reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted December 24, 2017 I think the point of the liquid diet is to prepare you mentally for what's to come. Right now, you can cheat a little and nothing horrible will happen (unless you don't shrink your liver and your doctor decides not to do your surgery....it's happened) But here's the problem.... Immediately after surgery, you have about two to three days where you don't ingest ANY calories...just clear fluids. Then, you're on shakes and clear liquid for TWO MORE WEEKS. You'll get like 400 calories a day if you're lucky. And If you screw up and eat something AFTER surgery? You can really hurt yourself and end up needing emergency surgery for whatever you get stuck. My doctor did a talk about all the horror stories of his career....the stupid things people ate and the trouble they got into. Not good. AVOID THIS. You're just getting started. For me, it was the post surgical period where I nearly gnawed my own arm off. LOL But yeah...that MONTH of freakin starvation just sucked. It really did. Honestly....it was much harder (in my opinion) than the actual surgery. But the good news...is that you will survive it. And you'll drop quite a few pounds to soothe your misery. And you'll be eating yogurt and cream of wheat before you know it. I was on the liquid diet for Thanksgiving and cooked for my family. OMG...so hard! For Christmas, though...I get to eat finely cut up turkey and mashed potatoes. And it sounds like heaven. You all have my sympathies. Stay strong! 3 sharkweek, tifflife and sleevedvegan reacted to this
Holls06 98 Posted December 24, 2017 I'm on day 2 and I cheated on day one. Nothing too horrible tho. Day 2 was easier because I was home all day. I didn't go to a Christmas function so I wouldn't be tempted by the food. I'm seriously hungry, and it's making me grouchy. sleevedvegan 3 Posted December 25, 2017 I'm on day 6 of my liquid diet. I survived my office holiday party but cheated on the 3rd and 5th day. I ate a taco supreme from taco bell and then 2 chicken wraps from McDonald's. I had convinced myself the liquid diet was hard but it really wasn't. I just keep thinking about afterwards. And to be honest, I didn't get the comfort from the taco or wraps. They actually tasted funny. The liquid diet is uncomfortable and scary but you can do it.Sent from my LGMP450 using BariatricPal mobile app 1 MissSimpson reacted to this
yandi77 1 Posted December 26, 2017 Wow this is my first day on my diet for my surgery and I have sort of cheated and I say that he my Surgeon gave me two choice of diets to follow and it's not particular a liquid diet it's 1000- 1,200 and or a Meal Replacement option and I would rather just do the liquid I choose to do the Meal Replacements diet which consists on drinking the Protein Shakes basically and having a boil egg, piece of fruit or greek yogurt for a snack and a Protein Shake for lunch and dinner 3 to 4 oz of lean Protein unlimited non-starchy vegetables so I tried my premium shake for Breakfast but anyways I love the Pasta my sister made for Christmas so I ate abt 2 tablespoonful and I ate a pinch of pound cake so I'm done with cheating hopefully be I've come to far to not get this done. But good luck to you.

I just read something really inspirational from another member who posted about trusting the rational self that had to jump through all the hoops to get here. You knew what you were doing and I think it's important to remember the reasons why you're embarking on this journey. It won't always be easy, but it also won't always be hard once you've learned how to 'drive' your new stomach :). Cheating on the pre-op diet is almost a given with our population, which is why the sleeve is so useful for us. This tool will teach you very quickly what cheating does (i.e. feeling icky if you eat something you shouldn't). Like another user said earlier in this thread, right now cheating doesn't do anything, but cheat on your sleeve and it will certainly teach you a lesson aversion therapy was and is a real thing! Wishing you all the strength and good vibes to get through this challenge. 1 fulamuso reacted to this
