2.5 weeks post-op and dizzy

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

So I’ve just started my Multivitamins, and I’ve been so dizzy and nauseous since. Is this normal?

They’re so big to swallow and I was hoping I’d get an energy boost from them, but instead for the first time I’m feeling dizzy and sick. Is this the Multivitamin or do you think it’s something else?

Thanks!

Are you meeting your Water requirements? Seems like dehydration is the most likely cause of dizziness.

Too few calories, not enough Water.

Also...crush your pills till at least a month out. Particularly ones bigger than an aspirin.

I just had my 1 week post op appt and the APN said I could experience dizziness. She gave me 2 reasons, one reason is because I am on blood pressure medication but I don’t recall what the other reason was. I’m sure if u call the office, they will be able to help u. Good luck.

Make sure you’ve eaten something before you take your Vitamins. I only made the mistake of taking them on an empty stomach once (about 2 weeks out) and dry heaved so hard. It was so painful with my incision! I also had quite a bit of dizziness a couple weeks out and had only been drinking Water. I added in Powerade Zero and it made a huge difference. Electrolytes!! Hope you’re starting to feel better.

Thank you all - my blood pressure was really low.

Taking Vitamins with food definitely does help - thank you Kristen.

I think I was pushing myself by walking way too much, to the point I became nauseous and couldn’t even sip Water.

I need to just let my body do its thing and be patient. I do wish the weight loss would happen faster, but at least it’s coming off slowly. I have to trust that I will get there, but I still don’t understand how I could be losing so little when I’ve lost more on other diets pre-op, it makes me feel like the surgery wasn’t worth it.

Hopefully the surgery will at least help me keep it off, unlike the diets.

Also, someone said you can put on weight from all the fluids in hospital and everything, so I don’t know.

I’ll keep at it, but wish I could eat with the kids on Christmas, I usually love cooking a big traditional family feast... really down about it.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
