fargosk 22 Posted December 18, 2017 I had surgery on 11.8.17, down 44lbs total including pre-op diet. I have zero cravings, zero desire to eat. Never hungry and gag before eating but once its down my body feels good, my stomach feels satisfied...anyone else? Any suggestions? 2 Sosewsue61 and Frankette reacted to this
Sosewsue61 3,185 Posted December 18, 2017 I have no desire either. I just make myself eat 6 times a day, it is a struggle. I find I like highly seasoned things better, but I still have a fridge with lots of leftovers because eating something 3 times in a row just doesn't cut it. James Marusek 5,244 Posted December 18, 2017 After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I completely lost my hunger. It wasn't difficult to drop the weight when hunger was not constantly continually gnawing at my bones. This condition does not last forever. About a year after surgery, hunger returned but it was not as strong as it was before.
CowgirlJane 14,260 Posted December 18, 2017 It's a good thing! My "taster" eventually returned to normal, but it was a good chance to be less focused on food as pleasure when everything tasted odd. 2 Missy161 and ProudGrammy reacted to this

What's for Christmas dinner, where are we going to eat for your birthday, etc...now I'm still focused on food but Can I eat that, how many grams of Protein, can I eat that for the next 4 meals...I'm so new, but I can't wait until its natural and a healthy relationship... LittleLizzieLilliput 919 Posted December 18, 2017 Give yourself about 4-6 months to get your tastebuds back. My surgeon was pretty clear on this, my body has a new stomach and things are gonna be different. First there is going to be 6 months of healing. That means that for the first 6 months things are going to be changing all the time. I wasn't able to eat any veggies for the first 8 months. Everytime I tried I'd feel sick. Then one day I had a bit of salad and everything went great! Also, when we severely restrict our diet and flavors our tongues get an opportunity to change as well. Flavors become more intense, things that once tasted great may taste horrible, other things that tasted horrible are now tastey. That is not totally unusual as well. But this could very well be an issue of a lack of appetite rather than a lack of things tasting well. When 80% of your stomach was removed part of what they removed is what produces the hormone that let's us know we are hungry, this also effects our drive or desire to eat things. (This hormone will eventually be reproduced elsewhere and your hunger will return after about 6 months up to a year). Also, you are so close to your surgery date, I basically forced myself to eat for the first 4 months. I had no desire to eat. I loved that time. lol! 1 fargosk reacted to this

Glad to hear I'm not alone! Trying different things can be pricey, especially when I can only eat such a small amount and don't like it. Any go to recipes for the first 6 months that made things enjoyable? 1 LittleLizzieLilliput reacted to this

Ok, so are Mashed Potatoes on your approved list? Cause that is what I tried as my first "approved" comfort food and it was the first thing I ate that tasted great. lol! I just remember that moment vividly because I was in total misery before then. Go to http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/p/links-resources.html This is a great place, she has some amazing recepies. Try the Ricotta bake for the pureed stage, it's pretty awesome! 1 fargosk reacted to this

Toolman82 4 Posted December 20, 2017 I’ve been having the same feeling. I’ve narrowed it down to a sour stomach. Mild nausea. Maybe ask your doc what you can take if you think that might be an issue. I took a bit of pepto and it help for a few. Doc has since sent me a script and we’ll see if that solves the issue more long term.
