What were you doing 2 months before surgery?

Recommended Posts

All right... don't have an exact date yet but I'll be having surgery some time in the first two weeks of Feb. So I am 7-8 weeks away.

What were you doing at this point in your surgery timeline?

I've been holding off on buying a whole lot of stuff because I wanted to be sure about what to spend my money on, and waiting would let me research and plan. Now I feel like I have the green light to make purchases but instead of going shopping I'm feeling overwhelmed, like when I first started researching surgery! Lol. This is such an interesting adventure and the emotions are all over the place.

So, what were you up to 2 months before surgery? Were you all ready and stocked up, or not even thinking about it yet? Tell me everything. :)

Get a person... a best-friend... a boyfriend.. a mom... educate them on the process. What your goals are each week. What help you may need from them.. babysitter, laundry help... ect. The more support the better... I’m 4 days post op and couldn’t imagine this experience without the help I’ve received!!

I did lots of research. I got a bunch of Premier Protein, bottle Water, broth, Jello and sugar free Popsicles.... But I think I did that the week before my presurgical diet. I also bought sugar free Cool Whip...to take crushed pills with when necessary. Got a pill crusher for mashing my clacium rock pills.

Prepared to starve. The Pre-op diet was tough for me.

I got thinning hair Shampoo as a preventative. I found some cool lounge pants for the hospital.

I kept exercising and stayed on my diet.

Oh yeah...and I estimated the amount of weight I expected I might lose every month and figured out what my weight would be each month for the next year. LOL.

The earlier you can start a weight loss routine, the better off you'll be for surgery. I started a medically supervised program using Meal Replacements and lost 55 lbs in 2 months and made my surgery a breeze. It shrinks your stomach, prepares you for how you'll live post-surgery and makes the surgery much easier on your body. If not a replacement diet, cut out most carbs and alcohol-you'll be amazed how much more energy you have. Good luck on your journey! I

I’m a huge procrastinator and I also try not to dwell on things. So I planned my surgery, researched it, did my doctor’s orientation and then kind of put it to the back of mind. I tried to eat healthier and be active, but I didn’t beat myself up on days I didn’t do so well (also note, my surgeon didn’t require a preop diet. Just liquids the day before surgery). I went on vacation, I visited family, I was out of town a lot. I actually forgot about one of my preop appointments and some tests that needed to be done, luckily I remember just in time. About a week out I sent my MIL about post op stuff since she was coming down to be with me.

Hey surgery buddy! I'm probably on the same timeline as you!

I'm eating my surgeon/RD specified diet. Losing the specified amount of weight. Doing PT to re-build my strength and help my balance issues. Walking daily. Researching the hell outta dis. Annoying everyone on Bariatric Pals by over-posting and posting as if I know something about anything when I haven't even had surgery yet.

I've bought Protein, tested it, and stocked up. Tested and purchased my Vitamins. Made Bone Broth and stewps. Cooked meats and put them away. Bought the cutest little silicone freezer trays that have lids so I can easily freeze 1/2cup of food at a time. Have darling little glass food storage containers at the ready.

And there might have been some shenanigans involving wine and homemade olive oil/truffle popcorn while watching Christmas Vacation on Saturday night...but it's all foggy to me...

My surgery is exactly a month from today. I have stocked up on some Protein Drinks. I am waiting to buy my broth, Popsicle, and Jello when I start my pre-op diet. And I am not buying to much because I have heard that your taste buds change and I don't want to waste my money! I made my pre-op appt with my regular dr. I am staying away from horror stories about this surgery because my anxiety is already through the roof. Just getting all my ducks in a row..

Thanks, everyone! I bought some Vitamins last night! Centrum adult chewables, lemon-flavored B12 sublinguals, I already take 5000 IU D3 so I'll keep using those, 65 mg Iron, and calcium citrate + D3. Those are the five required by my bariatric surgeon.

I bought the iron even though I don't technically menstruate (the booklet said "for menstruating women only") - between PCOS and my Mirena IUD, I don't get periods pretty much ever, but I'm assuming with weight loss my cycles will regulate, so I bought the iron just in case. Even then, the Mirena may still stop my period, though... LOL, I literally have no idea what my cycle is doing, ever. But better to be prepared I guess!

I like the Premier Protein chocolate shake but I have not tried any others yet. We found a Protein broth at costco but not sure how many calories. On my liquid diet the broth has to have 10 calories or less. I wish there was a way to find samples instead of having to buy a big pack of stuff you aren't sure you'll like.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
