Jaze 41 0 Posted December 17, 2017 Hi all, I am 3weeks and 5days post op and have upgraded to the baby food stage. I am wondering how long it should take me to eat 1/2 cup of food. I am having lots of esophogeal spasms with everything that I eat and drink and the doc has me on anti-spasmodic medication. I wonder if I am having the spasms still because I may eating to fast. It is taking me about 3/4 of an hour to eat about half a cup. Does this sound right?
James Marusek 5,244 Posted December 17, 2017 What type of surgery did you have. I had RNY gastric bypass and at 3 weeks 5 days post-op, my meals were restricted to 2 ounces (1/4 cup) per meal. In the early stages after surgery, you body is in a major heal mode. It takes several weeks for this to occur. I had gastric bypass surgery because before I had the surgery, I had severe acid reflux (GERD). Sleeve surgery will only make the condition worse. My surgeon directed me to use Prilosec (Omeprazole) for the first year after surgery for my stomach to heal properly. I discontinued it after the first year. I am now over 4 1/2 years post-op and GERD is no longer a problem.
Jaze 41 0 Posted December 22, 2017 (edited) I had a sleeve gastrectomy and my surgeon and nutritionist both said half a cup at a time for meals. I am struggling with that amount because the spasms are so bad that I give up eating to avoid the pain. I force myself because I know how important the nutrition is but spend the next hour or so buckled over with pain. It is easier to swallow Water but that is painful too at times. I really wish I could swallow with out pain. :-( Edited December 22, 2017 by Jaze
Confident&Sassy_RNY 6 Posted December 23, 2017 My program says 1/2 cup also for weeks 2-4. I usually can’t eat it all though. It takes me about 20-30 minutes to eat they 1/3-1/2c of food.
