constipation!

Recommended Posts

I am six weeks post-op and am really beginning to have problems with Constipation. I'm not sure about how to safely add Fiber to my diet. I've started taking stool softeners to help the process but . . . any ideas?

lots of us take Miralax. Some people take magnesium pills or drink Smooth Move tea. Just experiment with different treatments and combos of treatments and see what works for you. Just keep on top of it. You can get badly backed up fast!

I’m a miralax every other day person until I can add Fiber back in my diet. My plan actually says “low fiber stage” until the beginning of week 8. I’m on week 3!

Warm prune juice if you can tolerate the sugar Colace and Miralax are options

Miralax for me. I also take soluble fiber as well. However, I've read that some programs don't allow soluble fiber (Benefiber) due to blockages. Check with your doctor first.

I take Miralax Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I have found that the Calcium is what causes mine. They want me to take calcium citrate but when my wife went to buy my 2nd bottle she didn't get the citrate. I took the one she bought me (without citrate) for a couple days and found that my Constipation was gone. I went back to the citrate and it came back.

The Miralax is great stuff.

Hey Johnny, is the canned a significant factor or just convenient? Inquiring minds and all... :D You know, I never miss talking about having a satisfyin' poop! :D

TIA!

just convenient. be sure to get the organic cans of refried Beans though. the ingredient list should be "beans, water". don't get anything with hydrogenated lard in it.

organic refried pinto and black beans has been my #1 "hack" post-surgery. i typically have 1 can a day, spread out over the whole day. i eat a couple spoonfuls every now and then, and any hunger i might have had is completely satisfied. packed with Protein and fiber, and slow-release (won't spike insulin) carbs. i crave it everyday.

i went from being a huge meat-eater pre-surgery to craving refried beans and skyr icelandic yogurt everyday. who'd a thunk...

one other note... since we're on this disgusting topic:

i have never suffered from Constipation in my life, and i still don't post-surgery. however, i only take the Browns to the Super Bowl about once every 3 days. that doesn't mean i'm constipated. it just means there's not that much food in there to get rid of. when i do go, it's quite impressive, then it's back to another few days of silence.

post-gastric bypass surgery, i wouldn't start thinking "constipation" until it's been 5-7 days.

also, Water. more water. drink your water.

This is very interesting. I've been wondering that myself. I'm glad you clarified that, because it really does make since. As of pre op, if I go more than 2 days I'm grabbing for that Miralax. So I will hold off longer post op.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
