tealdog1982 1 Posted December 15, 2017 Hello, I have had gall bladder our years ago. Still deciding whether to have vsg. Wanted to know which one is worse, pain wise and recovery wise? Sent from my SM-G920V using BariatricPal mobile app
EagerPenguin 159 Posted December 15, 2017 For me, the sleeve has been worse, mostly because of the nausea and the diet requirements. Pain has actually been better for me with the sleeve than my gallbladder though, in part I think because they used the same incision sites over and over for multiple surgeries, I just don't have feeling there anymore. The sleeve surgery really isn't that bad though, just getting back to eating is the main challenge I'm having.
Kindle 8,667 Posted December 15, 2017 No comparison I was back at work day after having my gallbladder removed. Had absolutely zero "side effects" from the surgery. Took 7 days to return to work after VSG. 4 months of not wanting to eat and about 10-12 months before I felt totally "normal" again. Of course the other side effects, namely losing 100 pounds puts VSG at the top of my list for best surgery I ever had!
Editor57 11 Posted December 15, 2017 Had my gall bladder out and a hiatal hernia repaired Aug. 17; was sleeved Dec. 12. Gallbladder surgery was worse and doctor told me it would me (same surgeon for both). The gallbladder surgery was twice as long and more complicated. I felt pretty crappy the first night. But I went back to work in 2 weeks and had no issues. Also lost 22 lbs. eating a lighter diet. Now, have zero pain after the sleeve; biggest struggle is trying to get enough Water and Protein. I’m only two days out, though, not taking pain meds and I drove a short distance today to pick up a prescription.
