What heals faster rny or vsg?

Recommended Posts

I see wildly different timelines, and I’m just wondering if that has to do with different healing times based on surgery type (I understand it also has to do with individual Dr.s).

Sleeve heals faster, hands down. Shorter surgery, too.

VSG is a quicker surgery (although my RNY only took an hour), but I don't know about recovery time. I would have assumed they'd be about the same, but I've never seen statistics on it, so who knows.

p.s. I wouldn't base my decision on that, by the way. You may have health issues that might make one more appropriate for you than the other. Your surgeon should discuss that with you. They're both excellent surgeries and I've come across a lot of people on these boards who've been successful with both.

My doc said in our seminar folks that have bypass should allow at least 2 week’s recovery and the sleeve patients should allow at least one week recovery.

I was sleeved and took my 3 weeks off since I had the hours saved up. No sense rushing the recovery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
