I hear everyone say if they eat or drink too much they have pain.

i am now 10 days post op... I’m down 13.2 pounds and I’m worried about everything!!

im so worried I’m stretching my pouch!

I was gulping my drinks in the beginning and I had some discomfort and burping but no pain, I started eating very very minimal amounts of pureed food. I have no pain with eating either, I sometimes feel the food in my throat and feel like if I burp it’ll just come right back up but no pain? Does that mean I over did It?

No you wont stretch it out. I am 7weeks post-op out and I talked to my doctor about this same thing, thinking I was over doing it, but she said i'd have to literally eat, get sick, eat, get sick, and keep doing that to stretch it out. You know when you are full then just stop eating. I thought I was doing it with drinking my fluids, LOL. Your doing good on the amount of weight you are loosing. Just take it slow and small bites. With me my nose starts to run once I'm full. It's the craziest thing. It's a big long medical word for it, but when my nose starts running, then I know I'm full. My doctor also said that I should stop eating like two bites before that happens :) I still get the burps even when doing shakes if I gulp to fast. Your ok :)

You can "re-educate" yourself.

My nutritionist/dietitian advises to have drinks soup-style: i.e. in a bowl.

But, eat them in small sips with a teaspoon ... NOT a soup-spoon AND NOT a dessert-spoon.

It works!

I don't have pain when I swallow...but if the swallow is too big I have an uncomfortable tightness. I equated this to trying to put something in your butt without the benefit of lubricant. (I know that's gross...but that's what it makes me think of...it feels tight and unyielding..lol) Sometimes, I'll feel food move though and it's like a little cramp...goes away in a few seconds, but it's like a charlie horse in your esophagus.

I never had pain eating. As for stretching, you can't stretch your sleeve at 10 days out. If you do overeat, you'll blow out your suture line long before you stomach tissue would stretch. But you will certainly lose restriction over the years. At 4 years I can eat twice as much as I could at 2 years and probably 10 times as much as I could the first 6 months postop.

Whoa that's crazy...so how many ounces can you eat exactly now at 4 years postop? I just want a visual so I can comprehend the "ten times as much" part.

Ok, 10x may be a little exaggerated, but it's pretty close to that. I have no idea how many ounces I can eat. I've never been a measurer/tracker. But for example, in the beginning I could maybe finish about 1/3 of a yogurt cup. Now I could easily eat 2 cups. Went from nibbling 1/4 Quest bar to now being able to eat two (not that I do, but I COULD) a couple forkfuls of salad would stuff me, and now I can easily polish off a couple cups of spinach salad. I used to struggle to sip down enough Water, now I can chug 8 ounces at a time. As for all the "bad stuff" (cake, ice cream, bread, candy bars, etc) there's pretty much no restriction. Solid Proteins like steak, elk, and pork chops are still pretty restrictive.....probably only 4-5 times as in the beginning. But back then just 2 tablespoons would leave me stuffed for hours.

But despite having less restriction, I still eat a fraction of what I did before surgery. I could not have lost over 100% of my excess weight without that severe restriction the first year postop. But in the end, maintenance is all about the choices I make, not my restriction.

Agreed - I can eat so much more food. In the end it is about the habits we built regarding food and activity. My MD said before surgery that at 18 months most can eat over a cup of food and that stretching is normal y

Precisely ...

A few months to tune eating and lifestyle for the long-term.

Definitely ALL about adjusting habits for the better.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
