4 weeks post op

Recommended Posts

2 weeks ago you were eating 2 time as much as you should have been. please check the handout the doctor should have given you. Portion Control is vital at this point. Dont stretch out your pouch. give yourself time to get used to the new you and your new eating habits. weigh and use measuring cups for anything and dont exceed amounts listed in handouts from the doctor.

Thanks for your response. I sure hope I haven’t messed anything up. I did not get a Portion Control handout. In the folder I was provided it just said a meal should not be more than 6 oz and to eat Protein first. Protein at 20g per meal and no snaking.

I'm 3 weeks out and I can eat about 2-3 oz per meal if we're talking food (tuna, soft chicken, Beans, etc.). If it's thicker liquid (soup, yogurt), I can tolerate 4-5 oz. If it's Water, I can do more than that.

My surgeon told me my stomach could only hold 4 oz. So after surgery I weighed each meal, whether mushy food or liquid, and kept it at 3-4 ozs. I never ate more than 4 ounces. At my 6 week post op check I was told my stomach will be able to now hold 4-6 ounces as the swelling inside the stomach should be mostly gone. So now at 7 weeks out I weigh my food and am eating 4 -5 ounces. No more than 5 ounces, ever. I think it would be painful.

You should check with your surgeon’s office but I would think, where you are at, you should not consume more than 4 ounces.

I wish you the best in your journey.

I'm seven weeks post op and can't even get 1/4 cup or half cup in me still. It's good. My nutritionist was like, "YOU HAVE TO EAT THIS, AT THIS TIME AND EAT THIS AMOUNT". I talked to my doctor and she said, if I am getting my Protein in still from shakes, it's fine, take your time and eat. If you eat actual food, and can't finish in the 20-30 minutes, then throw it out or put in fridge for next meal. I am on regular food as much as I can be now, still doing shake in the morning and at lunch, but had gone to Panda Express on Monday and did you know you can get SIDES from them? So I got a medium side of just beef, thinking Oh yeah, it's a little more than 5oz I can eat this. HA HA, it's day three and I'm still eating out of the "side of meat" box :) barely three pieces of meat if that. And I'm loosing every day. Yeah, don't over eat to get that EXACT 4-5 oz in. If you are full, get up and save it for later.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
