Hair loss help!!!!!

Recommended Posts

I am almost 5 months post op and am having extreme Hair loss. All of my labs were normal. Any suggestions or rays of hope? This is new to me. I have incredibly thick hair and used to get it thinned out every 6 weeks just to put it in a pony tail. Now I can wrap the hair tie three times around my hair and my friends are noticing the thinning. I am on the verge of tears. Thanks for your help!

Happened to me too but I wasn't blessed with thick hair to begin with. But the ray of hope is it WILL stop falling out and it will grow back. I know it sucks right now, but it will be okay in a few months! Mine started going around 6 months and it's starting to grow back at 10 months.

I’m at 4 months and losing tons of hair too. I don’t have thick hair but I do have very long hair that’s super slick and straight. Pre-surgery I could wrap a ponytail 4 Times, I think I’m going to have a heart attack if I end up having to do 5! I hope it starts growing back soon!

Same, my hair is super fine, black, pin straight and shiny. No body or curls to hide that it's been falling out! Can't wait til it's back to normal.

I was told by the nutritionist before surgery that it was likely to happen. My surgeons practice recommends taking a Biotin supplement 2 x a day to try to help with it. I was so happy for the first several months that I didn't notice a difference in the amount of hair I lost, and then starting in month 5 I had to unclog the shower drain 2-3 times during my morning shower so the Water would drain and I had to clean my brushes every couple days. My hair used to be very thick, so much so that I often broke hair clips trying to fit them onto my hair. Now I can feel it's much thinner, especially at the crown of my head. I'm hoping I don't develop a bald spot!

But the good news is that once the rapid weight loss tapers off it does grow back, from what I am told.

**I have noticed that when I use a hair band to make a pony tail, I have a lot more hair falling out in the shower the next day. I think the band being tight and pulling at the hair doesn't help, so I have stopped doing pony tails for now. Sucks for exercise and bad hair days, but I'm trying to salvage what I can!

My nutritionist said to make sure to keep calories up to 1200 a day...that it will help with the severity of Hair loss.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
