EagerPenguin 159 Posted December 12, 2017 I think I felt similarly to you, and that feeling really is awful. I cheated on my pre op once too. Didn't feel too great about it, which is what kept me from doing it again. Just let this bad feeling be your guide, you don't want to cheat. I think if you stick to your diet from here on out you'll be fine. 3 Creekimp13, Madsadclown and Determinedinkenrucky reacted to this
Determinedinkenrucky 20 Posted December 12, 2017 Thank you KCRN.... I know 1 piece of chocolate is not going to blow my entire diet, but the feeling like a complete failure sucks. I called my Dr. office, and they said I will be fine, just stick with it from here on out.... Glad to know I'm not the only one.... And you're right...this feeling will definitely be my guide.... 3 Creekimp13, baribetty and Madsadclown reacted to this
Creekimp13 5,840 Posted December 12, 2017 Better (and safer!) to have your brush with temptation on this side of surgery, rather than post-surgically. Lesson learned. We're human. It's ok. 1 TakingABreak reacted to this
DaleCruse 756 Posted December 12, 2017 In my opinion, the best thing you can do now is stop beating yourself up. You acknowledged you messed up. Now forgive yourself & move on. You are not alone. Lots of people (including me) cheating a bit on the pre-op diet. Good luck! 1 jcb123 reacted to this
jaminator 262 Posted December 12, 2017 I had a big bowl of Pasta about 36 hours before surgery. My doctor said dont worry about.
AskingForAFriend 25 Posted December 12, 2017 Im supposed to have surgery on Monday and never started my pre-op diet. Thinking about postponing until I’m more mentally prepared. Thoughts?
SuzyQutie 63 Posted December 13, 2017 You will need to talk to your surgeon. Purpose of pre-op diet is to shrink your liver.Sent from my XT1650 using BariatricPal mobile app
AskingForAFriend 25 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) SuzyQutie...and say what? i never really drank 1 Protein Shake per day? That's all I was told to do, replace 1 meal with a Protein shake per day and to practice my protein goal of 70-90 grams of protein per day. Make sure I have 1 cup of veggies, small serving of fruits, etc. I actually lost 10 lbs eating that way but never really did the Meal Replacement. I appreciate your saying I should talk to my doctor but that's kind of....not what I want to do at the moment. jaminator 262 Posted December 13, 2017 Its funny how the doctors differ. My surgeon was the most straight up blunt doctor Ive ever had. She said while the prop diet CAN be used to shrink livers in extreme cases, the real purpose of the preop diet was to get you used to eating less. She told me to try to have at least one liquid meal er day, but if i could do more go for it. She saidnot to starve myself and the key thing was dont eat 24-36 hours prior to surgery. 1 AskingForAFriend reacted to this
AskingForAFriend 25 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) EXACTLY what my doctor said, so I didn't see the huge deal in the pre-op diet. Did you stick to 1 replacement meal per day? So I'm having my Protein Shake for dinner...may as well start now with the meal replacement I went and bought some Premier Protein shakes. jaminator 262 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) She told me to start 30 days out. So for the most part i went like this: Monday - Friday i made homemade choc Protein Powder smoothie with skim milk and cold brew coffe and crushed ice. Somedays i would have liquid diet for lunch but not always if i was hungry. I would have a sensible dinner with some kind of grilled meat and a green veggie Sat - Sun i ate whatever the f*** i wanted, and drank alcohol. I lost 12 pounds doing that. Day before surgery I had a bowl of Pasta, my kryptonite. Doctor said my liver looked fine and surgery went great. And since surgery iv lost over 50 pounds because i just cant eat very much. 6 months out i can eat pretty much anything i want, i just dont eat much of it. But i still try to eat sensible monday through friday and the scale keeps dropping 2-3 pounds a week. AskingForAFriend 25 Posted December 13, 2017 (edited) You're my 'effin' SPIRIT ANIMAL! That's pretty much how my life is going at the moment. Do you still drink alcohol, or do you pretty much leave it alone now? Also, what do you eat now on a normal day? (sans liquid and mush in the beginning?) Also, do you have a lot of loose skin? Are you exercising? Edited December 13, 2017 by Lenore Cumberbatch Pearson 1 jaminator reacted to this
jaminator 262 Posted December 13, 2017 My doctor told me to wait for 4 months, and then that i needed to live my life. SO i am able to drink wine, and whiskey with 15 calorie minute maid juices, (lemonade, fruite punch, or mango passionfruit) with no issue. The biggest hurdle for me was giving up beer, because i LOVED it. But i got over that. I have had a few beers over the last couple months, but its very filling so cant do much. Wine or whisky you can pretty much drink however much i want. She told me that it would be difficult to never drink again if you did before and are around people that do. And to be honest, now it takes maybe four drinks ( i mix a shot and a half with about 24 ounces of juice, so i get very hydrated), or 2-3 glasses of wine and thats all i need. 2 SewAmbitious and AskingForAFriend reacted to this
