Oh no! My hair is falling out!

Recommended Posts

As you can see here, it doesn't have much to do with meeting your macros. No one is really sure why, but they guess it's because of trauma and hormonal imbalance--which happens any time there's a major incident like this (many people have it happen after childbirth). It's my guess that if we were able to eat a normal diet after surgery, it wouldn't happen. But 800-1300 calories is starvation level, so the body takes that on as a trauma. No need for hair when you're about to die of famine!

Totally. I even eat “high” calories for being 5 months out according to my dietician. It’s just frustrating. Emptying my brush every couple days is such a pain in the ass even though it’s a minor task. Surgeons NP said Hair loss will basically continue for a year then I’ll notice baby hairs. I’m hoping it’ll grow back sooner because when I reach my doctors goal weight (15-18 lbs to go) and I switch to more of a bulking diet so I can put on more muscle.

Mine was falling out from around month 6-9, it's been growing back for the last three months. I'm glad but also the baby hairs are driving me nuts! Never had such frizzy looking hair. I bet the bulking diet will help your hair!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
