I was asked during my psyc eval about whether I reached all milestones growing up, do I feel like a failure, am I depressed, what is my alcohol consumption like, have I done any illicit drugs... what is my relationship with my family, do I understand the risk of surgery, do I understand what would be required after wls. After that interview, I took the MMPI Diagnostic test... that was ~570 questions... it was a very long appt.

The woman who did my psych interview was a lunatic, I seriously thought she was drunk or on drugs (im not kidding or exaggerating)

She asked me questions like where did my cardiologist go to medical school, and several times asked me what my name was again.

He came in to check how I was doing and I was on question #352... he said, "oh ok, you have ~250 more to go."... I was screaming OMG! (In my mind..lol). My appt was at 8a, we started on time, I was walking to my car at 11:40a!

I got tickled reading your post... I don't know why she would ask such questions.... that is odd. I was asked once the following questions, during the interview, that I thought were odd:
What is today's date
What is the current season
What street is his office on
Count back from a 100 by 7s
He had me do a few excersises to see if I could follow directions/instructions.

I think he was just trying to determine my state of mind.

Sounds a bit like the mini mental test.

Did you have to fold a piece of paper and drop it to the floor by any chance?

I had to take an MMPI as well. I took me about 30-40 mins. It was all true or false. Very easy. You can even tell, if you don't have mental health issues, what kind of issues they were looking for. For example, I do believe one question that was asked is "Do you hear voices?" Other questions were a bit stranger. You just have to answer them honestly. After the MMPI, the psychologist asked me pretty basic questions. Some specific to eating behaviors, like binge eating ect.

Yes! Lol... I had to read what he wrote on the back of a piece of paper... which was fold the paper and lay it on the floor to my left.

The MMPI is this long questionnaire that tries to assess whether you have problems with depression, anxiety and addiction (among other things...but questions about those three things get asked repeatedly) It's no biggie. If those problems exist...expect some follow up on them.

My therapist works exclusively for my bariatric group. She also runs our weekly support group and does therapy with people running into issues after surgery. She's pretty knowledgeable about the process, and attends a lot of continuing education unique to helping bariatric patients. I like her. She's made sort of a specialty out of providing support to people going through the process.

At the determination appointment, she asked me:

1. What my motivators were for wanting surgery.

2. How each of the core people in my life were reacting to my decision.

3. If I felt I had enough support from family and friends. Who were my main cheerleaders? Who were my detractors?

4. How I felt about the surgery, the process, my care, the surgeon.

5. Asked me about my history with struggling with my weight.

6. Asked me about future goals and hopes.

It was actually a really nice appointment. We had coffee, laughed a lot, and she gave me a glowing recommendation. Was super easy, and I feel like I have someone knowledgeable and familiar to talk to if I hit unexpected problems down the road.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
