Hello all, trying something new here..

Little history about me... I had lap band almost 10 years ago. It was a love hate relationship! I have horrible drainage so it didn't work for me. Either to tight or to loose. Last week I had the lap band out and received the sleeve all at the same time. Recovery has been pretty good. Pain is better but this liquid diet is causing some major emotions. I am getting my required 64oz of Water in, or more, and the 3 shakes a day. I will have some broth in between to change up the taste some. Today I woke up and hit a wall! Very weak and crazy emotional.

Is this the norm? Just wanted to reach out and see if this was normal to feel? Anyone went through this?? I go back to work tomorrow and worried how I will be able to concentrate feeling so tired and weak. Kinda feeling like a hot mess and the thought of not getting to the pureed foods for another week is kinda overwhelming. I am NOT hungry.. which is good.. just body feels like I need something.. and doesn't help.. NOT a fan of these shakes. To much sweet! Hard to stomach!

Any advice would be appreciated!

thanks...J

The three most important elements after weight loss surgery are to meet your daily Protein, Fluid and Vitamin requirements. food is secondary because your body is converting your stored fat into the energy that drives your body. Thus you lose weight.

Several individuals report feeling weak after surgery. But it could be due to a number of issues.

One issue is dehydration, but you seem like fluids are not your problem.

Other issues might be due to low blood sugar or low blood pressure. Sometimes if one was on medication for high blood pressure or diabetes prior to surgery, the medications might need to be reduced after surgery. Otherwise severe weakness can result.

Being tired can also be due to an electrolyte imbalance. Symptoms of an electrolyte imbalance vary greatly depending upon which electrolyte is unbalanced, but may include thirst, weakness, drowsiness, sluggishness, fatigue, confusion, cramps, abnormal heart rhythm, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting or seizures. https://www.livestrong.com/article/234160-how-to-prevent-a-fluid-electrolyte-imbalance/ That is why taking Vitamins and minerals and taking them in the right form for absorption by your new stomach is important.

I am 10 days post op had the samw procedure u had, band to sleeve. Im surprised to hear your rerurning to worl tomorrow. My Dr. forbid me from returning befoer 2 - 3 weeks. He said going from phase 1 to phase 2 you want to ensure that your body is ready & prepred. I'm still sore from surgery, some days arw better than others & emotionally you are dealing with alot, your new norm, especially when everyone around me is eating bacon, donuts etc. If you are anything like me you've build a relationship with food & now you've gone through a bad breakup. After any breakup you are gling to be emotional. Take stock in yoir feelings, I've starting writing them down, aclnowledge them

To break up the sweetness of the shakes and such, I've added unflavored whey Protein to warm broth (no warmer than 130 F or it'll denature the protein). Your blood sugar may also be lower than you're used to. Maybe not critically low, but lower than your body typically functions at. That's my thought. My post op diet includes a limited amount of diluted 100% fruit juice. I've had a little juice and a Protein Shake when I'm feeling particularly weak and tired, and it perks me up a little so I feel like I can go on.

Thank you all! I will try it all! This is very helpful! I just need to get through these next few days and then I can add pureed foods. I did stay home today from work. JUST NO WAY I could make it in. This is little more intense then I expected.

Oh I can't wait to add purée! Seriously. chicken breast with spices and low fat gravy and broth, from the blender. That's what I'm looking forward to, lol.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
