Anyone from Edmonton?

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm very close to Edmonton. I am about 110lbs overweight.

I'm booked for Feb 23rd with Dr.Corvala in Tijuana!!! I also was referred to the Alberta Weightwise program but no longer want to wait, or have to worry about convincing anyone there that I've tried everything on my own already and am just getting bigger.

I found out that if you have it done in a hospital outside of province/country, Alberta HealthCare will reimburse about $1,500 of the cost. Also, apparently as a medical expense, it may get some tax refund back too. This costs $16,000 in Canada for a selfpay. It will cost me $6,000 in Mexico. Flights are reasonable, and the Surgeon has excellent all inclusive package. They will pick mye up at the airport and escort me to my hotel in Mexico.

I've researched extremely well.

anyways, drop in to say hi!!! especially if you are close by!:)

Hi, I live in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. I have been sitting on the fence for about a year now. I am 44 years old and can easily stand to lose a good 100 pounds.

What should I do first? I am scared if I go see my doctor, she will try to discourage me from doing this.

And advice would be appreciated.

In Alberta you have to go through the Weight Wise clinic through the Royal Alex... Its covered by Alberta Health but the weight list is rouhgly 2-3 years, I was referred Jan 09... my assesment was scheduled for June 10, surgery woul dhave have 1-2 years after assesment.

I decided not to wait any longer and am flying to Toronto... Doing the self-pay thing.

If you want to stay in Alberta get referred ASAP.

Hi, don't be scared to enlist your doctor's help and thoughts. Losing weight has so many health benefits and she will know this, and you and your past with it. My Doc at first didn''t really understand much about it. But at the time-- the surgeon in Toronto that I was talking with kindly sent a letter to MY doctor expalining everything, and then he was keen on it.

This is an important life changing decision though. It's not a casual thing like buying a new pair of shoes. You must know yourself VERY well, and what is entirely involved. I just had mine done last week. That day of surgery I have NEVER been so scared. Although it is minimally invasive procedure, you are still relinquishing yourself ENTIRELY into the hands of another, without ANY control. And your relationship with food will be forever changed, unless you have the band removed. This is THE point, and is a good thing, but you must be prepared to change the whole way you think and do things. I looked at it as forced behavior modification, which knowing myself, was needed. For me, I made the decision that feeling more energy, being healthy and being slim outweighed the pleasure I get from indulging in foods and the comfort eating that way brought me. Losing the extra weight will add to the quality and length of my life. I've never noticed how inundated we are with food advertisements and commercials ALL the time, now that I am consciously deciding on my meals, and limiting things until I'm healed. Anyways, to you, your health, and the best decision you can make!

if you want info on which Dr. i used, and where, just message me....I'll gladly share my experience if you like! :)

EdmGirl is entirely correct, if you want to stay in Alberta, get referred ASAP!!! Their clinic offers an intensive sort of 'pre-op' thing to boost your efforsts, teach you and maybe try to intervene without surgery, but there's a wait. Call them for more info, they're really nice and will tell you anything you need to know. :)

Real far... north of Grande Prairie. I am being banded by Dr. kurri. I am old enough to know I can't win this battle on my own. I lost all my weight before in 2002 and gained 2/3rds back. I have been up and down on the scale all my life. I feel I'm a very good candidate. I drink Water at least 2 litres a day. I walk every day 2X (I HAVE A DOG) I am very excited and scared. I've told 3 people in total. Those people I had to tell. I would love to be able to share with someone who knows and understands the battle field.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
