When did you go back to work after weight loss surgery?

Recommended Posts

I'm taking 3 weeks off post op. I want to be close to normal foods by the time I have to go back to work, I figured the liquids & pureed foods would be easier to manage if I was home. I wish I would have taken off 2 weeks pre op too though. I am struggling with the pre op diet at work, I wish I could do it from home instead and maybe I wouldn't be cheating so much...ugh.

I work from home as well and I only took 4 days off. It might have been a little too optimistic, but being as though all I have to do is go to my office and log on to my workstation, I'm thinking I should be OK. My surgery is scheduled for 1/29

I had a desk job when I had the sleeve and took one week off. This time I’m having my conversion to a bypass on a Thursday and taking the whole next week off. My friend did the same thing and he was fine.

My job is allowing me 6 weeks off, but only 5 of the weeks will be paid. I'll probably take all 6 weeks off because I want to start off strong and make good habits!

My doctor said most people are fine to return after one week. He wanted me home for two weeks because I have a very physical job. The return has been fine, though navigating "learning" the sleeve, what to eat, etc has been a challenge.

Maybe you can schedule your surgery over spring break and not miss any time from work. The recovery time is quick.

That would be ideal but the three month diet is throwing that timeframe off. I think it’s going to end up taking place in May or June.

I will be able to schedule anytime after may 15, unless my doc does not require the two week pre-op diet. With how everything will fall, if he doesn’t require that, I could schedule during the last two weeks of April. I am not sure if every doctor requires the diet, as I hear some do and some don’t. I have my first appointment on Jan. 9 so I will have a better idea then. [emoji123]

Like someone said earlier, it all depends on the person.

I had surgery on a Tuesday, was released Thursday and was at work (office) comfortably on Monday.

I hope this helps!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
