I had my surgery 12/30/16. I entered my program on 7/19/16 after topping the scale at 301 pounds. I had always swore if I went above 300 I would take drastic action, which I think was always an excuse because in my head I would never get "that big". I was also having issues with my blood sugar running high, my thyroid wasn't being controlled by medicine properly and my knees and back hurt so bad I couldn't keep up with my kids.

I lost 30 pounds presurgery through my program and went into surgery, after a ton of research at 271 pounds. Recovery was not bad for me, some minimal nausea and pain for about 2-4 weeks but I was back to work after 2. Moving through the early stages was the hardest part and I had a lot of emotional issues to work through but once I was back on regular food I was much better. I lost slow but steady until 10 months out and I've now been stalled since October 2 bouncing between 190 and 187 pounds.

I've lost 113 pounds approximately and hoping to get to my goal of 175 but I feel like I might be in maintenance at this point. I'm currently eating between 1100-1300 calories, 80-100 grams of Protein and 50-100 grams of carbs and I feel completely normal when I eat now. No more huge portions or going back for multiple plates.

That's really impressive! Congratulations on your successful journey!! Reading your post has really inspired me this morning.

I was sleeved just last month on Jan. 16th 2018. I started my journey at over 400lbs. So far im down 42lbs. I've been battling with my head trying to stay focused & deal with the different food stages as well. I'm currently on a puree diet & getting in an hour minimum of walking each day. I'm very motivated to learn & live a healthier life!

Do you have any advice that you could give to a newbie?

I began my journey with my six month insurance-required pre-op diet program on March 21, 2016. I weighed 397 pounds. I lost 99 pounds during that six months, weighing 298 on the day of surgery (September 28, 2016). I reached my goal of 180 pounds on October 2, 2017 (1 year and 4 days post-op), and I have been maintaining at 173 for the last several months.

I eat about 1900-2000 calories per day, but I keep my carbs below 25. This has been a key to my success and is a very sustainable way of eating for me.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
