So so weepy! Normal?

Recommended Posts

Hi all-- I am on day 6 of my 2 week pre op liquid diet. I am a Normally stable person but the past 2 days I am an emotional mess. Crying over stupid things, etc. is this normal? Are my hormones all out of wack because of the liquid diet??

As you lose weight, the chemicals and hormones that were stored in your fat cells are being released into your body. These will pass through your kidneys and are expelled in your urine. But they can generate a flush of hormones during the weight loss phase. They should simmer down once you transition into maintenance. It is important to meet your daily Fluid requirements, because it take fluids to flush these hormones from your system.

But since you are still in the pre-op stage, I am not sure this is the exact cause. It may be the stress associated with the fact that you will soon undergo major surgery.

Hiya Christina109

I am four sleeps away from my surgery, and don’t start my liquid-only until tomorrow. But I have also noticed pretty obvious mood change - in my case, I have become grumpy b***h from hell! I have a pretty stressful job but (usually) a very even temperament which makes me very good at the job. But the last week - eek.

So, for me, definitely not hormones, just stress. I felt a bit relieved when I read posts here - it is a big unknown. Giving up my great life comfort (food), a bit of pain etc to start, and the big unknown.

Lucky we have each other, I reckon......

Best of luck Biddynz! I do agree part of it might be stress related. I am traveling all next week for work, so I need to bring all my shakes, etc with me. It also doesn't help that each evening I am expected to join networking events, which will be horrendous on this liquid diet. I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like I am losing my mind :)

I feel like someone I don’t like very much!

I am glad I only have three liquid days - the only benefit I can think of by having a surgeon who does RNY by open surgery - I am having an old broken gastric band taken out.

i hope no one will notice the liquid diet - I have recently developed a new ‘love’ for miso Soup at lunch, so I will just add Protein to that.

what date is your op?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
