This was so beautifully stated. I am new to this forum but I know that shaming never works and addictions don't have to make sense. We do need to support each other and be very careful of our own subjective feelings related to Judgment of others. Sometimes if we've not experienced a behavior we do not understand it. We don't need to reinforce it as being okay, and we really don't need to shame it. We support the person not the behavior that we know is not healthy. post="4565255" timestamp="1513127338" name="paintnpencils" userid="331151"]
I haven’t done it yet but I am to supposed to go on an all liquid diet for 10 days before surgery. Minimum 60 grams Protein 800 cal per day low to no sugar. To shrink liver and make room for surgery.

That’s absolutely right! I’m only 9 days out and this was the best decision of my life!!! It’s a great experience. You’ve got this and you won’t believe how fast things will change for the better.

Just ignore anyone that isn’t supportive or kind on here because there are plenty of really lovely people on here also that are very supportive and nice.

I think the veterans were the biggest help to me during my days leading up to and freshly after surgery and they are a very important part of this site. What would be the point of this forum if it was just a bunch of newbies and pre-op people talking about something they haven't yet experienced or were just newly experiencing. I wanted to know if something had been experienced by other people, I wanted to see their results and hear their stories and I wanted to know in the dark early days that it would get better. I wanted to hear their meal ideas and good products that the found on the market.

The thing is some people will be kind, helpful and accommodating but not everyone is going to be. Some won't say what you want to hear, not everyone is going to be nice and rosey but instead straightforward and direct, some people will be down right rude because we all perceive things differently, especially on a message board where you cannot decipher tone or infliction but many have very good advice and are encouraging. Even if they come off a little harder than others sometimes. They are the ones who have the experience, they have lived it. Even my surgeon stressed the importance of support groups because as he said "I can give you the medical side but I've never had the surgery myself."

I agree with you 100%. The vast majority of the vets are super helpful. I’d say there are a handful that can be overly critical and discouraging. I’m thankful for those who are aren’t. This is my “support group” per-say.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
