I just did something stupid and ate a cauliflower Soup before I knew I was ready. It had some chunks I chewed - but I am in a lot of discomfort now and feeling sick.

Don’t do it! I feel really stupid and hope everything will be ok now.

I feel so stupid. Has anyone else done anything like this?

I don't eat cauliflower but isn't it A really gassy food anyway? I would imagine that in itself could be a quite painful

Tried a creamed butternut squash Soup at 1 week out and also felt awful, it was way too heavy for me that soon out.

Yes, I guess it would be considered gassy, but it’s also low carb. It was creamy and delicious, but yeh, too heavy. I had more than I realised I could stomach - I got full way faster than I realised. I’m back on broth and too scared now... overeating really isn’t a nice feeling. It was a cauliflower cheese Soup and so yummy.

Why do you feel stupid? You were hungry it happens! I can't over eat. I get heartburn from drinking Water so yeah I could imagine Soup. But sure does sound good!

Thank you. I totally feel like I messed up today. Day 7 and I totally risked my help by jumping off diet. I have learnt my lesson and really scared myself. It really isn’t a good feeling at all, and I’m still recovering.

I’ve just done something really bad. I was fine and just woke up to check on the kids, and it’s the middle of the night here, and I took a few bites of pizza and now it feels stuck. I want to vomit but I’m scared it will do damage. I am so angry at myself. I am so scared I’ve done damage by doing it so soon, and the last thing we’re probably allowed to have, and even the calorie side. I am petrified it will cause a leak. Never again. I am so stupid. I was sound asleep and have no idea why I did that. Middle of the night snacking was what I would do prior to this surgery, even when I wasn’t hungry and can’t believe it’s still in my head. This hurts way too much to ever do again.

I have found I need to weigh my food at all times so I don’t over eat! Right now it seems anything over 3-3.5 ounces is too much! I tried just eyeballing it and had a couple nights of tummy aches and nausea. Good luck to everyone.

I feel like you should consider speaking to your doctor, nutritionist, and/or therapist. You were concerned about the amount you were eating the other day, if I’m recalling correctly. Then you ate cauliflower bits in your Soup and now pizza. I would just hate for you to continue to escalate and seriously hurt yourself.

Agree with this

Honestly it's super unlikely that you caused any real damage (calorie, leak, or otherwise) by doing what you've done. But it's highly questionable behavior at the one week mark.

And honestly the first week is the easiest, once you get to week 4 and 5 and are still predominantly on shakes you'll be going crazy (not to mention sustainability of these changes for the rest of your life which is an insurmountable challenge)

I think the sooner you get ahead of this the better, use your resources.

Thank you so both so much, I agree too. I honestly have no idea what came over me when I’ve been doing so well with no problem, and really finding liquid so easy to stick to, and then I could do something so stupid out of the blue like that. I really scared myself and realised just how many issues I have with food to do that. I am really embarrassed about it.

Thank you both so much.

Pre op you wanted to use laxatives after cheating. Post op you want to vomit after eating the wrong food.. And then people complain if you want to be brutally honest. When I saw your pre op post I did wonder how you'd cope post op.. I won't offer any advice of what helped me refocus seen as you didn't appreciate my advice on your other post. But good luck and hope a therapist can help you so you don't end up suffering a leak for the sake of a few bites of pizza.< br>

pizza? Just one week after surgery? I could understand making a mistake with the cauliflower Soup you started this thread with, but pizza?? Were you not given a list of foods to eat for the first few weeks? You need to talk to your doctor and nutritionist and get on track before you hurt yourself!

I am 5 days out and the first week is not easy. It’s very mental. I’m noticing how my MIND tries to trick me to make me think i want these foods but i don’t give in to it. I’ve had plenty of breakdowns to my support system about how I’m ready to chew somethin. It’s def mental, far from easy because it’s new (atleast for me).

Well everything is mental in this journey

But the first week your appetite should be by far the smallest, and feeling like **** and probably being on pain meds food should be a struggle.

A few weeks in your hunger is going to come back, and you'll be severely limited as to what you can eat. For example I'm still predominantly having the same diet as week 1, but I'm much more hungry and tired if it now :P

Gotcha. I haven’t experienced much pain so I’m not on any pain meds. So my mind is really playing on me. It’s not that i be hungry, it’s jus my old habits of always waiting to eat that kicks in. So I’m def using this time to break this addiction to food. I have no choice 🤣🤣[emoji23]

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
