Chocolate After Sleeve?!

Recommended Posts

I'm about three weeks post op, but just getting ready...

I bought some Lily's chocolate baking chips (I'd read about them on here). Curious to see what's people's reactions have been to consuming chocolate post-sleeve, when you had it for the first time, and if there are any other kinds out there to recommend?

The only chocolate I get these days is the chocolate Protein Shake. Pre WLS I was a chocolate fiend. It wasn't a good relationship as it contributed to my weight gain and I'm sure it didn't help my diabetes. I'm trying to not introduce the foods that led to my health demise pre WLS. I'm the type that a "little" always turns into more than I should have.

The Lily's that I ordered came in the mail today--the nutrition facts are FAB, and the serving size is 60 chips, which is FAR more than I could even potentially eat at this point. I tried a couple of chips, let them melt, enjoyed them, and seem to tolerate them well! I've always been much more of a salty snack than sweet fan, but as a person who really digs baking and wants to incorporate healthier ingredients, I think this will work out nicely! sugar free (stevia sweetened), low carb, low calorie, low fat...

It's Lily's chocolate--I ordered it from Walmart, but I know Amazon sells it, as does Thrive Market online. I'm sure there are other places as well :)

While I'm not really a chocolate person. It is Winter and snowing quite a bit. What's the viability of making hot chocolate with something like this? I've never made hot chocolate with anything but that cheap powder ****

Can you make hot chocolate with chips, would it be decent? I tried making my own with cocoa powder and splenda, and it was extremely bitter and disgusting

Hmm... maybe if you add skim milk while it's melting in the pot? I'll play around with that as well and let you know! Maybe putting some unflavored Protein in it will be better?

Nope! Mine said nothing at all about it. I've seen others within this site talking about this brand, so I gave it a whirl!

Have you guys tried the ProtiDiet hot chocolate??? So good! It satisfies the chocolate craving and 15 grams of Protein a cup. I get it on Amazon.

I haven't even heard of that! I'll definitely give it a try! Thank you!

chocolate doesn't bother me. I had chocolate Protein Shakes from the get go. Actual chocolate I would say, maybe 3-4 months post op I might have had a bite. I'm not a huge chocolate person but when I do have a piece here and there I prefer plain old dark chocolate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
