First day after surgery - everything is going great

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I just walked in the door from discharge about an hour ago. I really wanted to post because as I was pre-op and reading forums it was pretty scary (for the most part) about the immediate after of surgery. I'm guessing it's like many things, people only post when they have an issue.

My surgery and post op have been nearly amazing; I had a full bypass and hernia repair yesterday via laparoscopic procedure, December 6th at around 9:00am and so far everything has been pretty darn good. There really isn't a great deal of pain to speak of, consuming the small amounts of liquid is an adjustment but easy enough. I've already had one full Premier Protein shake today spaced out at around 15 minute intervals and walked about an 1/8th of a mile yesterday and 1/4 today while in the hospital. I'm not experiencing terrible gas pains or heavy nausea. Truly, the worst pain I've had was from urinating yesterday afternoon when the catheter was removed and that's pretty much better today.

I know this is a journey, I know the potential for issues and opportunities will certainly arise from this new lifestyle but for me and I'm certain others don't be alarmed by the post op stories, everyone's experience is different and mine has been amazingly low pain / low stress.

Good luck!

Congratulations on your progress thus far! It’s great to remind everyone that many people have MINIMAL pain or issues post gastric bypass, which was my experience too.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
