Waiting an hour to drink after eating

Recommended Posts

At 3 years I still wait 30 minutes except with wine.

I have never even heard of this. I have always sipped with my meals, simply because it keeps my food from getting stuck! I have never had an issue with it.

It's kind of like traffic, you can follow the posted speed but you really need to drive with the flow of traffic. And those two things can be different. lol! So situational.

I love that analogy!!!

I find that drinking Water while eating is uncomfortable. Feels like swallowing a rock.

I used to LOVE water. Not so much anymore.

My surgeon's guidelines are to wait 30 minutes as well but I'm allowed to drink up until I start eating..I usually do wait 10 minutes or so but I don't wait much longer than that..so far have had no issues...

My group says "70 minute rule"

No drinking 10 minutes before eating

A meal should last 30 minutes...no drinking with the meal

No drinking 30 minutes after the meal.

I'll admit, I'm not always perfect with these rule. But I agree with a previous poster....trying to drink while eating or just after is incredibly uncomfortable. Unless the food was a slurry like oatmeal...it's like trying to swallow a rock.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
