I have been reading a lot the past couple of weeks. I have had my consultation with the surgeon. I am meeting with my gp Monday to get him on board. I have to make the 1st of my 7 months pre op requirements of nutritionist. I am thankful for that. I need to learn to be prepared for my post op life. I love reading all these stories and I can't wait to be one of the great stories.

Hello all. My name is Eddie and I’m from Miami, FL. I am going to have gastric bypass on April 12. I have gone through and received all pre-medical clearance as well as psychological clearance. I am both excited as well as nervous.

My journey begin on November 2016. I met with my surgeon and went through all the requirements necessary for surgery. I started dieting using calorie control as well as hiring a personal trainer in April 2017. In five months, I dropped 50 pounds and thought that I could continue without surgery. That was a big mistake. Huge. In the following five months, I gained back the 50 pounds that I dropped plus an additional 40 pounds. I decided no more yo-yoing for me.

I have a very supportive wife that has been with me through every step of the way. I am very fortunate for that.

I look forward to sharing my experiences and thank everybody for sharing their‘s.

Had what is supposed to be my last pre-op appointment today. They are submitting my paperwork and then she said it's 1-3 weeks before I hear back from my insurance company. At that point they will call me and I can schedule a presurgery appointment with the surgeon (they are usually booked a couple weeks out), and then from that appointment, my surgery date will likely be 3-4 weeks from that point. So, it sounds like worse case is another couple of months for me assuming I'm not denied. I plan to try and document everything as I go through this journey. I think it'll help me to stay accountable and allow myself to receive support (I suck at allowing others to support me, but always want to support them).

oh no u are definitely not alone, lol,i am worrying about all those things too but getting healthy & feeling good is the most important.hair will grow back,u can hide some sagging skin or eventually do something about it if it bothers u that bad.lord knows how well we try to hide those extra lbs & this will b a lot less visible & a lot easier.

Thanks, I think I'm letting the many stories I read about people who regret it get to me.

Congratulations! Must be an amazing and exciting feeling to see the numbers huh? I can't wait for that. How was your first two weeks? Finding the energy to walk an hour a day seems like a fantastic accomplishment. I am glad that since I won't be getting my surgery until summer, I'll get to walk outside. I always do better in warm weather, and then tend to pack on the weight in colder months since I avoid cold like a cat does Water.

Justb116, very few do wish they hadn't had WLS -'more wish they had done it sooner. I am still pre surg but I wish I had it done at a younger age. I'm 72, it won't be a "Walk in the park" for me like I was 20,30 or even 40. But I want a better rest of my days on this earth and I can't have that in a painful tired body which is slowing from the sheer weight of me. I want and I need this surgery, I've been trying since August 2015 and this spring will be my time[emoji14] I will be a RnY in Columbus Ohio.

Energy hasn’t been a problem. The first week the surgical site pain was pretty intense especially changing position from sitting to standing. But once I was up I could walk ok. I started slow and only walked about 10 min at a time. But I think it was day 8. I just noticed I felt better. Standing and sitting were not a problem. Now I am at 3-3.2 mph on the treadmill (no incline) and I go about 30 min. At a time. It was 70 here the other day and I took an outdoor 2 mile walk that lasted about 50 min. Where are you from.

Massachusetts. It's freezing right now. Actually it's colder than freezing. And wind is evil. The air hurts your face, and no matter how much insulation (both weight AND clothing haha) you can never stay warm!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
