So I had to do a 6 month weight loss program through IEHP with weight watchers & my 6 Months are almost done, so now I’m just wondering what do I do next, what should I expect? Anything that y’all can tell me that might help? Please and thank you. I’m just so excited and I hope I get approved.

Hi... :)

After 18 months of working my butt off with a dietician (and physical therapist, psychologist, hematologist, bariatrician, you guys know the drill) to get my diet to a surgery-sustainable place (I was eating Cookies , I finally have my surgery date. February 13th is the day!

I've been preparing for this for so long that I feel like I know what to expect as well as someone that hasn't actually had the surgery can.

There are so many different topics I wasn't sure where to start, so I thought I'd post here. I start my liquid diet on the 30th which I'm ridiculously excited for. I'm sure I won't be as enthusiastic 24 hours in, but for now, I can't wait.

Hey!

Not sure why I waited this long to look into a support system online, but glad I came to my senses and signed up! I have my surgery tomorrow AM. I think it's finally hit me that it's happening. I'm feeling every emotion right now. I guess that is a good thing, right? I understand the commitment and life-altering changes but committed to doing so because I have the power to make these new memories and changes be for the positive.

Took me about a year to go through the process (tests, labs, evals, etc.). They only made me start a liquid diet today (day before surgery). I move to Clear Liquids by 12 am and my surgery is slated for 7:30 am.

AH! haha.. so excited/nervous/anxious/scared/etc.

I'm day two after surgery. I'm in a bit more discomfort then I was at the hospital. Probably because I don't have all the "Good Stuff" they were medicating me with to help. I can walk around well. My issue is having really bad gas pains. It hurts even if I take the tiniest of sips. Which makes it hard to get my intake in, but I'm doing it because even though it is painful, I know dehydration would be worse. They were giving me a chewable gas medication at the hospital but didn't prescribe any or write any down on my discharge sheet. I'm thinking of getting some Gas X as I have read others found this to be helpful. I can pass gas, burp, but have not passed a bowel movement yet. I'm assuming because I've been on liquids since Tuesday. I do not feel like I need to, and I keep trying because I feel like having a movement would help with some of this built up gas. I was also concerned because my left side shoulder is painful, but they said it was okay as long as it didn't get worse. I just need to keep reminding myself that this will pass and to keep at it. It's not been too fun so far. But have to keep remembering why I did it and hopefully this stuff goes away.

Everyone says keep moving and the gas will go away sooner so keep on even if it's at a fast hobble. Before long me and all the pre-surg will be joining you and you're our trail guide, you'll 'be there to say"that's how it was" to us. Keep up the good work, you're our veteran now. Now relax and try to get some good quality rest, you hear?

I'm new on here. I was banded in May 2017. Fast forward till now, my band is almost full and I have had no weight loss )other than 17 pounds I lost pre op) and feel no restriction. I switched to a new doctor in Dayton, Ohio last week. He thinks my band is out of place. After discussing my case with him, we decided to schedule surgery to remove my gallbladder and my lapband. I should get that date sometime this week. Then I am going to start the process to get a revision to bypass. The lady I spoke to in the office said I will have to do the 6 month diet again. I am really hoping this is not the case since I just did the diet and all the pre-op test last year.

Newbie here. No date set yet. Just wanted an opinion... I’m having my procedure done on the other side of the province (Canada), about 15hrs away. Long sitting time to get home, but would flying be any better? I know even in healthy people they can get clots from flying...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
