Hi I started on this journey in 2015, part way thru, job terminated in Jan 2016 so lost insurance. Thought I'd muddle along but after diet failures and second knee replacement last February, realized I wouldn't last longer being the weight of a redwood tree when inside is a lovely sugar maple waiting. Hi from to,bloom forth. I'm a little older than many of you saplings but I'll make a success of this journey and I hope to be here firmly rooted for many more years. Hope to have my surgery at Mount Carmel in my state capital of Columbus with Dr Marcus Miller. He and his Bariatric Nurse Navigator Amber are great. Not frightened of my future RnY, only wish it was tomorrow. Happy New Year from Central Ohio.

Hi! I'm new here. I was just approved to start the options classes through Kaiser in San Diego. So I have 6 months of preparation and learning ahead of me before I have my surgery. I am not decided on which surgery I am going to have, the doc said I could do either the sleeve or the bypass, but that it would be mostly up to me and the surgeon. I am leaning more towards the sleeve because it seems a little less scary, but I am still on the fence.

I have so many questions and so much going through my head right now. I've talked to my kids and my partner about it, but I haven't told my mom yet. Not sure how to approach it with her. But I guess I have 6 months to figure it out!

Happy New Year everyone!

Hiya, I have joined yesterday. I'm Jess but also go by Chandni for years so choose either ;)

I am 38 years young from Germany, been overweight forever (since I was a kid) and I had my first consultation and information meeting 1.5 weeks ago. I was told I can do my surgery basically now if my insurance agrees to pay it. I still have to get all the paperwork done, but couldn't start during the holidays. Now that the new year is here I'll be able to start.

My surgeon wants me to do the Bypass, because of its immediate effects on diabetes (wouldn't it be great not to have all these ghastly meds anymore?) and because it's apparently most effective. With a BMI of 61.6, it's high noon (Any other Overwatchler here hearing that in McCree's voice?).

I am scared and nervous about the general anaesthesia and complications during surgery, but I can't do this alone, I need this and am looking forward to the change from 'can't stand for 3 minutes without pain and not take care of herself properly' to a normal life.

Welcome.
The surgery is scary, but it will actually end up being the easy part. Life after surgery is incredibly difficult.
You will see once you get there.

Hey Y’all,

I’m G. I’m super new. I joined at 3:50am(east coast time) while at work. I’m a 29yo wife and mama of four screaming, amazing, glitter shitters. My husband and I are both morbidly obese and struggle with weightloss. So we’ve decided wls would be best for us both. We go to our Consultation at Duke on 1/3/18. I’m so excited and nervous to start this new journey with him. I’m really trying to decide whether I want to have VSG/RNY. I have about 185lbs to lose. Luckily, our program only requires 3 months of food tracking and meetings with the dietitian, which we started in November. Anyway, just wanted to introduce myself! Happy New Year from North Carolina!

I am doing pretty good. 11 days from surgery. Went to dr on Friday and everything looks good. I need to do better job of tracking and hitting goals.. how are you doing?

Doing well only issue is getting that Protein in. My doc says to just focus on staying hydrated.
I cannot wait to get out of the liquids stage. I was curious so I had half of a small mandarin orange yesterday and it digested well no issues.
What phase does your NUT have you on?

Just getting the ball rolling here. My new insurance just started today. Everyone is closed because of the New Year so I will be making a bunch of calls tomorrow. I read it's best to start by finding a surgeon to guide you through the process for the best chance of insurance approval, so that's what I'm doing.

I just joined today.

After a 2.5-year process that included switching programs (long story short: bad fit), I finally have a surgery date of Feb. 15. My last pre-op appointments/labs are on Jan. 30, so now I've got to make sure I lose my birthday/holiday weight (roughly 10 pounds) before that so they don't make me postpone my surgery (I did not stick to my diet as well as I should have the last few weeks).

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
