Switching INS. Mid Way?

Recommended Posts

I am so nervous! We just got a letter in the mail from my husband's employer stating that we will be moving from our UHC plan Definity Health to Cigna's Consumer Choice Enhanced Plan as of Jan. 1. Now, I have already started the process with UHC and have my all day doctor's visit on Thursday. What happens to me if UHC approves my surgery but I don't actually have it until early 2008?????

I'm feaking out here! I just don't know what to do! I don't want to go through all of this and then have to start over with a 6 month diet next year to meet the hoops Cigna might want me to meet.

Can anyone calm my nerves or at least share their thoughts?

Thanks! :)

I wish I could help, but I'm kinda on the same situation, I was all set to start the process with United Healthcare and then my husbands employer decided to up and switch us to Anthem. But I think our switch is a blessing, because UHC wasn't going to cover the surgery, and it looks as if Anthem will.

I hope you don't have to start all over...

Just an update... my surgeon and the program I'm going through have worked with me to try to get my surgery before the end of the year. A few days ago I got the email that told me I was approved. I hope to have my surgery in a few weeks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
