Hello, I was sleeved 10/17/17. I have lost a little over 50 lbs. I have had a crazy ride but things seem to be getting back to normal. I am finally on foods, I feel like it’s trial and error at this point. What are some ideas of foods you guys eat and how much?

I have been eating a lot of grilled chicken with refried Beans and I and so scared that since I didn’t have my measuring cup that I have eaten more than I should have a stretched my stomach. Is this possible? Has anyone else felt like this?

Thank you in advance :)

I found that softer foods such as chili and Soups went down much easier than harder foods such as steak and chicken. So that is what I have primarily relied on. I have included some recipes at the end of the following article. http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

Great read @James Marusek! I am 7 weeks post op and found many useful tips. It is definitely an exciting journey, and I love the fact that I can now go into any store and find clothes that actually fit and look good.

Gastric bypass patients have pouches...whereas gastric sleeve patients have sleeves. A sleeve is not synonymous with a pouch.

Anyhow, your sleeve will relax over time to accommodate a higher volume of food as it heals. This is the natural progression of things although it saddens some people.

During the first few months postop I could tolerate about 3 ounces of food. Nowadays I'm almost 3 years out and can easily accommodate 8 to 10 ounces (more than half a pound).

A fully matured sleeve's normal capacity is anywhere from 8 to 12 ounces.

At this point I wouldn't worry about stretching your sleeve. Just focus on high Protein foods and meeting your nutritional goals. Good luck to you. :)

Weighing scales ? Buy one. Then you won't eat too much.

Yesterday, I ate 10 ounces of vegetables. I was super hungry after my workout. I was worried about the amount that I was able to eat without getting full. Last night, I ate 3 ounces of salmon for dinner with vegetables. I was content after just 3 ounces of vegetables. So, lean Protein reduces the amount of food that you can consume in a sitting.

I try to get protein in for every meal so that I won't eat too much, but sometimes, I just want to kill a spinach salad or bowl of peas or green Beans without any meat.

I guess if you don't measure or weigh, the important thing is to stop as soon as you no longer feel hunger. Don't wait until you are full, as that might be too late.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
