I had to be transferred over from Mount Sinai to Mount Sinai St. Luke because my insurance only allows the procedure to be done at a "Center for Excellence", whatever that means. But I'm on day two of my pre-op diet and my surgery is scheduled for December 14th.

I had surgery at a Center of Excellence for Bariatric Surgery. These Centers of Excellence are available in many states. The Centers of Excellence provide a complete support for the surgery. There are many components that require a range of specialist beyond just a surgeon who specializes in Bariatric Surgery. They include nutritionist, psychologists, a hospital that specializes in bariatric surgery, staff that work insurance issues, pre-op testing, weight loss and exercise programs, bariatric surgery support group meetings, five years of post-op follow-ups. It is like a "full meal deal", no pun intended.

I have soreness/pain in the same spot (3 weeks out). I had gastric bypass, and my surgeon told me that they put two stitches in my muscles: one around the belly button where it's common for a hernia to develop, and another in the area you're pointing too because that was the incision they put the laproscopy equipment into and where they pulled the bisected segment of my intestines out. (Note: so freaky). Basically, the stitch and stretching causes soreness and it's normal.

I still hurt of if I lay on my right side, breathing heavy during exercise causes soreness, and if I stretch funny it can pull too. It gets better!

I'm still sore there occasionally (22 days out today). It doesn't hurt all day, but if I move wrong it lets me know. Like if I put my left leg on the bed to dry off after a shower- it doesn't like that. But it's getting less frequent and less sharp by the day.

A muscle tear (or cut in this case) takes time to heal. Don't push yourself too hard on that area, and make sure you get in your Protein, that helps you heal more quickly.

I found that wearing leggings or workout pants that I can pull up over my tummy helped a lot in the second and third week. It held everything still and didn't let my stomach bounce around much.

I see. Thank you. My surgery buddy and I have been suffering this pain... and we were wondering about it. I’ll start wearing the garment more it kinda helps.. but then it feels heavy on my belly. Strange.

Congrats on your surgery @Luisajfc !!! Hope your aches and pains settle quickly. Never had fits of coughing after surgery but the single coughs or sneezes were an "experience". Good luck on your journey!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
