Could you eat this much in one sitting ???

Recommended Posts

Hello ~

I was banded on 1-12-07 and have 2.2ccs in my 4cc band. I have lost about 40-45 pounds and would really like to lose about 20 more.

I am trying desperately to decide if I need a fill or not . . .

I will have days where I can barely get anything down, but lately - have been eating what I suspect is way too much food.

I am really curious if there is any way someone at their 'sweet spot' could eat 8 chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A and a side of cole slaw in one sitting ???

Now, please understand that I don't eat like that all the time (and am not always able to) - but did today and am now feeling like maybe it IS time for a fill.

Any input will be greatly appreciated ~

Thanks,

Lynn

I dont know, it depends how big they are, I dont live in the US.

McDonalds nuggests are quite small and I can eat 6 of those with no problem.

Oh, good point Jacqui - I didn't even think of that . . .

I would say the nuggets at Chick-fil-A are a little smaller than the ones at McDonald's.

Thanks,

Lynn

I couldn't eat that much at once.. but, how big are the cole slaw things? Suppose to eat about 1 cup of food at once.. I would say the chicken nuggets would be 1/2 cup (they are little).

Then yes, I could eat 8 nuggets and half a cup of coleslaw. I'd be full, its a bigger meal than I'd ordinarily eat.

I think there's a huge misconception that there's a certain amount you "should" eat as a bandster. Everyone's body is different. 1/2 a cup is not the magic amount that people think it is, its a guideline is all. If you can eat more with no pain or discomfort a) you arent stretching your pouch and ;) you only need a fill if you've stopped losing weight.

If you can be banded, eat 1 and 1/2 cups of food at a time and still lose all your weight, then why in the world would you mess with that? You'll be way better nourished than the person who gets by on 1/4 of a cup at a time.

I think people get a kind of secret satisfaction from eating virtually nothing and they seek it out when really its totally not necessary for a lot of people, especially active ones. And you find the ones that eat that little dont necessarily lose any faster either.

So my answer to cut a long story short is if you're losing you dont need a fill and if you've stopped losing and plateaued out then you have more room to cut back and you could get a fill to help with that.

Julie- That's not necessarily good... 2 of the chic-fil-a nuggets which are about a quarter size each.. isn't a meal.

I could eat about as much as you maybe a little more. I had my fist fill of 1.9cc in a 4cc band. Well I thought I needed a fill too, so I got one. Man that was a big mistake. My doc put in .8cc more to bring me to 2.7cc. I drank Water before I left to make sure I was ok. The water got stuck so she took out .2cc to make me at 2.5cc total. Well since I am a self pay I thought, hey maybe this is a little tight but I'll live with it. Well, the next 2 days were HELL. I woke up the third morning(today) and had to drive 4hours to my docs primary location to get an unfill. I couldn't keep anything down. I was throwing up foam. It was the most horrible experience. I dropped 6lbs in 2days. She unfilled me to 2.1cc total and I can get a little bit down. I probably could stand to have another .1cc out but I just paid for a fill so I'm gonna live with this. What I am trying to say is if you have problems on some days getting stuff down, don't go for a fill. Or if you do take it very slow. .1 or .2ccs. Trust me you don't want to be too tight. It is really miserable !!!! I was so miserable and desperate that I tried to unfill myself with one of my hubbys insulin needles. Needless to say it didn't work, and it was dangerous for me to do that. Plus you may be so close to your "sweet spot" that it will only take .1 or .2 cc to hit it. Sounds to me though that you might be good. Just my opinion though. And hey if you only have a copay and don't have to fork over hundreds of dollars, and your doc is close by, try it.

Very well said. It drives me INSANE when people say, "If you can eat more than 1/4 cup of food, you need a fill" or "I can only eat 1/4cup of food at a time." Really? If that were the case, then I'd think you'd lose loads of weight REALLY FAST. And be VERY malnourished.

Yup, what she said, too.

Lets also remember that 1/4 of a cup of chocolate is WAY different to 1/4 of a cup of peas. There's not a problem in the world with being about eat 2 cups in a sitting if you choose healthy types of foods like vegetables and lean Protein.

Trouble if you have the room for that, you can probably also eat a whole lot of bad foods that are very hard to resist.

but its definitely a personal balance type thing.

My question is why are you eating friedf fast food? Chick-Fil-A has a better option, just get the grilled chicken sandwich and eat only the chicken.

I think it's perfectly ok to eat nuggets, say once a week. The trick for me is I eat healthy all week, and on Friday and Saturday I allow myself to have one "bad meal". Usually mexican food. As long as I know I have those two cheat days to look forward to, I stick to eating healthy all week. So far it's worked for me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
