I had my surgery on December 28, two days ago. I had a lot of pain when I woke up. Mostly gas pain all over my belly, which is tolerable, but also a stabbing, searing pain just under my left breast. After having another upper G.I. and a CT scan to rule out hernias or other complications, it seems that the source of my pain is that the blood flow to my spleen was cut during surgery. My surgeon says it’s not uncommon, and just means it will take a few days longer for the pain to go away. It hurts so much, though, I am on around-the-clock pain meds and muscle relaxers. I just feel awful. 😪

Awe! I’m sorry! Lots of rest hun! I’m happy to say that I’m not on pain killers today! I took my last bit of them at midnight last night. I only have taken some liquid Tylenol and that does the trick. Only pain I feel is when I cough due to a previous cold! Are you taking any pain meds kaydo?

Yes, I’m on a lot of pain meds. Toradol every six hours, oxycodone every three hours, and Flexeril three times a day. I’m basically stoned, but at least it doesn’t hurt as much.

I’m sorry! I’m on liquid dilauded as needed for pain, zofran and levsin for stomach spasms and nausea. And pepcid for acidity. I’ve been only using Tylenol extra strength for pain because I dilauded can be habit forming.

I had my surgery on dec. 28 as well. I’ve been in a good amount of pain. Been taking my Norco and phenegan every 4 hours. I have the stabbing under my right breast. My doctor said that suture would hurt the mist bc that’s where he had to pull my stomach. Maybe the same with you. Speedy recovery!

I wish you a speedy recovery as well! The suture where they pulled my stomach is the most painful part right now. Hopefully it’ll simmer down.

I’m not having any pain at the incision sites, and no nausea thankfully. Apparently, this spleen/blood flow thing is rare but it does happen. That’s what’s causing my pain. I’m hoping to get out of the hospital tomorrow, but will see. It’s bearable when I have the pain meds, but still excruciating when they start to wear off. I know this won’t last forever, right now it feels like my internal organs are all moved around. I feel very broken, and I am regretting the surgery so much. I keep reminding myself that having my son via emergency C-section was hard, but worth it, and hopefully this will be worth it too. Right now, it just sucks completely.

If you want you can always private message me! I can be here to talk if you need. And you’ll not regret it in the long run, right now it might be painful but you’ll enjoy the results in the future!

I’ve been absent for awhile. It’s hard to respond easily from my phone and I was having problems with the app. I’m trying to catch up a little but still on my phone.

Three weeks out today (Dec 28!) Overall it’s gone well after the initial nausea slowed down. That was rough and kept me in the hospital an extra day.

I feel this week is when the nerves are starting to heal so I’m feeling different things from my tummy. I’m feeling hunger and feeling “stop eating” a bit more now. Some things are making me queasy. Etc. none of it is bad, I’m just getting a chance to learn my new tummy.

As far as Vitamins, etc go: I’m still not taking them all. Because of the nausea, the surgeons office said to hold off on incorporating all that stuff for a few weeks, so I’ve been slowly adding them in. In a week or two I’ll have everything incorporated.

Food is going fine, if boring. I’m still on puréed food, though I’ve allowed myself some stretch on “how” the food gets puréed. (Meatball gets puréed in my mouth. :D )

Anyway, mostly all is well. How about the rest of you?

I went back to work today. It was ok for the most part. I had to run out of my classroom this afternoon bc I threw up my afternoon snack. Thankfully, my 4th graders are understanding. Bless em!

Hi Subaru - Glad to hear you're mostly doing well! My surgery was 12/28 as well and I'm feeling about the same as you. Can't remember if I posted here about my actual surgery. Sleeve itself went well, but my surgeon nicked a blood vessel to my spleen causing a horribly painful splenic infarction, and one of my lungs collapsed. So I ended up in the hospital for 4 days, and spent nearly 2 weeks on Oxycodone at home. I'm feeling a lot better now, though, and returned to work this week (mostly from home but I went into the office for a few hours today). My biggest issues now are:

  • I'm freezing cold all the time
  • I'm exhausted at night
  • My lung hasn't fully recovered and there's Fluid in my lung so I'm coughing a lot, and get tired easily
  • I'm nauseous when I wake up in the morning (I have to take a Zofran and let it kick in before getting out of bed)
  • Some of the puree/"soft" foods sit pretty heavy in my stomach (chicken breast, grits)
  • I'm starting to fight "head hunger" more each day (where I know my body isn't hungry but holy moses I want to eat that food in front of me just to taste it)

However, I'm down a total of 36 lbs (20 since surgery) and can see/feel a difference, especially in my face and waist, which is very motivating. :) Are you seeing the scale go down?

Hi Kaydo,

How are you healing?

Yes, I'm seeing the scale go down! I'm at about 37 lbs down now, so no complaints. I also got back to work yesterday (finally) and am feeling pretty tip top over all. My pouch handles different kinds of food well, and next week all restrictions are lifted so I can try raw veggies (hello salad!) and nuts. Overall, I've been fortunate to have a pretty unremarkable recovery.

I have finally figured out what my body's "tell" is for when I'm eating too fast (especially), or too much, etc. I get very bad indigestion in my back. Crampy and painful and it can last for hours. I'm only just figuring that out, and I have to get better at slowing down (or stopping) when it happens.

How are the rest of the surgery twins doing?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
