After returning from the hospital, many people find it difficult to sleep. Some people will sleep on a recliner for a few days.

But don't do what I did - which was try to sleep on a Water bed. Every time I tried to get up, it was instant pain.

As you get further along and the fat disappears between you knees, it can be very difficult to sleep on your side because you can feel your bones rubbing together. I found that sticking a pillow between my legs at night help this immensely.

Try a firmer space, even if it's the floor. I spent the first night of recovery (as well as that day, sleeping on and off) in a hotel room. I was surprised at how comfortably I could sleep, considering how painful it was to lay on my bed after my gallblader surgery a few years ago. I attributed it to my miraculous recovery or the wls being somehow 'easier'. Until I got home. My bed is SOOO uncomfortable right now. I attempt to sleep there every night, but have found myself on our very firm sofa of on the floor. Last night I stayed up all night mattress shopping, lol.

I slept on the reclining couch in the living room for the first few nights home (maybe 4 nights). The recliner made it MUCH easier to get back up off the couch, and being able to sleep in a partially upright position was much more comfortable than flat out on my back.

Wondering if anyone else is experiencing anything like this. I wake up several times in the night absolutely drenched. I feel a bit cold as well (so severe night sweats). I’m also a bit delirious when I wake up. Thoughts like “ok, you have two choices, rule the world OR be a camel” so very weird. I get up, go to the bathroom, straighten out my thoughts, go back to sleep, and start the pattern all over. I believe I’m plenty hydrated (I’m a psychologist, so I’m thinking about possible delirium causes and hydration is one of them) and getting the required Protein. More curious about the night sweats than anything I guess.

Have u talked to ur doctor about this? How long ago was ur surgery? I'm just afraid ur body is low on something important, causing the delerium. That's the part that worries me. I don't have any suggestions, but i hope u get to the bottom of this quickly. Good luck and take care.

Can’t sleep nothing is comfortable

The first few weeks was a nightmare for me too. I had to use one of those longer pillows and prop it up and then add normal pillows around it to make a back cushion to lay upward and sleep... slept horribly the whole time too. Especially with the surgery openings we have to keep clean and the pain- you have to be super careful. I’m sorry. This will pass soon.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
