These are not the best pictures. I want to give you good pics of how well the scars are doing but I'm dealing with limited software since I'm traveling. When I get home on the 6th, I'll do better. I'm at 6 weeks postop.

Hi Julie, How's everything going? Hope your latest surgery went well, I think it was right around this time that your boobs are getting done. If you already had it, hope everything went well. If you haven't had it yet, then good luck. Please keep us posted.

You are such a fast healer! Your arms are looking fantastic. I'm at 4 weeks post-op and my arms are no where close to how yours look. Are you using silicone sheets or mederma or anything else on the scars? And are you still in a compression garment for the arms?

Enterprise,

For what it's worth (and it's only one guy's opinion), Dad says Mederma, Vitamin etc. is a waste of money. He says moisturizer in general will help, but that specific products that claim scar reduction won't. I don't know what I think about that, but I've been using Nivea cream, per his recommendation, and it's worked pretty well.

No, I'm not in a compression garment. If I'm honest, I quit wearing it in week 4, though I was supposed to wear it through week 6. I would have worn it longer if I had one like yours. Mine kept rolling down (it wasn't joined behind the shoulders) and was too loose by the time the swelling went down to do any real good (that was my excuse anyway).

For what it's worth (and it's only one guy's opinion), Dad says Mederma, Vitamin etc. is a waste of money.

I heard that same thing yesterday from another surgeon . . .

I took my 14 year-old daughter back to see her surgeon for a 2 week follow-up appt after she had a cyst removed from her throat. She asked the doctor how soon she could start putting "Mederma" on the scar and her surgeon said the same thing - that there really is nothing that works to make the scar less visible.

I wish she hadn't told her that, because my daughter had in her head that it would help. As it is, she looks like she survived a mugging and ended up with about a 2 inch scar right across the front of her throat! I am sure with time the swelling will go down and the incision will be much less noticeable, but my teenager wants it gone YESTERDAY!

I have used Vitamin E oil on my band incisions and after a year, all but the port incision are barely noticeable. I bought Mederma, but didn't like the way it smelled.

I forgot to say that the doctor told my daughter that the worst thing for her incision was the SUN. She told her to use a moistuizer with SPF on her incision whenever she is going to be outside for the first year . . .

.... I bought Mederma, but didn't like the way it smelled.

I remember reading somewhere that Mederma is made from onions. That's probably why it smells funky. Dr. Heller suggested the silicone sheets. My guess is that the silicone sheets help keep the scar flat because of the way they adhere to the skin. I also like the idea of keeping the scars covered because the whole area is extremely sensitive and just the slight rubbing of my clothes against the incisions causes pain.

Lynn, I'm sure your daughter will heal just fine. Youth has quite a few advantages. But I do remember being that age and worrying about every little flaw. (What am I saying? I still do that!)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.
