Good high protein recipe

Recommended Posts

I've found a great chicken salad recipe yesterday. It was delicious . You get Protein from the chicken. And the celery is very high in Fiber. Which is needed when eating high protein. Thought I'd pass it on. Hope you like and feel free to substitute ingredients to your liking.

This is for a large bowl. Many meals

1 rotisserie chicken remove skin and dice.

4 stalks celery diced

1 bunch green onions diced

8 oz fat free sour cream

1/2 cup fat free mayo or LF

4 strips bacon cooked & crumbled

1 tsp paprika

1 tsp salt

1/2 cup roasted chopped pecans

1 tsp soy sauce

Mix all ingredients except chicken

Once combined stir in chicken.

Best if chilled for 2 hours

You can add more ingredients

Like grapes ,dried cranberries, Apple, raisins

Anything healthy that adds flavor

Hope you enjoy.

That sounds awesome. Is it ok to eat things like raisins, apples, or grapes? Aren't they high in carbs?

If your plan is low carb. Then no it is not okay. My plan is not low carb so it is okay for me. You need to be aware what is in your plan not eat things you see others at your stage eating when it may not be on your plan.

Grapes are totally high in sugar

But it depends how much youre eating too

A cup of grapes is 15g of sugar.

But if youre eating 4-6oz of food at a meal, how much of that is really going to be grapes ? 2-3 grapes ?

That being said a staple of Bariatric Eating is usually Protein > veges > everything else (carbs).

I dont think it makes a ton of sense adding them if youre only going to eat like two, but I dont think theres anything wrong with it either if that floats your boat (or youre cooking for a family that includes non bariatric diet folks)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
