Sleeved 11/28.....4 days post op

Recommended Posts

Hi all I'm new. [emoji846] I got sleeved 11/27 lost 13lbs on the preop and I feel so hungry after being sleeved these Protein Shakes, popsicles, broth, and Jello cups are not doing it for me [emoji37] I'm currently on day 6 and I take the Premier Protein shakes does anyone else have any recommendations. I was thinking about buying my own Protein Powder and maybe adding half a banana and some skim milk to change it up. What do you guys think?

Hello there and welcome! Sounds like you are doing well. I know that skim milk is ok by doc but I'm not sure that the banana is. I don't feel hungry at all but I wish I did. Premier Protein was my favorite before but post surgery I can't tolerate it.

Everything tastes so bad. Very artificial. I can’t wait to move on. Going to try unflavored Protein tomorrow to see if that’s any better.

Very very important to push liquids these first few days rather than the Protein. It is super easy to get dehydrated and once you do it is hard to remedy. Sip constantly - warm tea, sf popsicles, crystal light, broth, anything. I could not tolerate sweet shakes and went to ready-made Isopure punch or blue raspberry mixed with half crystal light.

Hunger is usually acid reflux, if one med isn't working call your surgeon's office and see if something else will work better. Sometimes your stomach is just 'empty' and that might be a new sensation to you, also your gut will be very noisy. You will be bloated and maybe even gain a pound or two, stay off the scale - yeah it's exciting but it will be all over the map these first weeks. Walk and walk and walk. Then nap. You will be soo tired but not realize it until you hit a wall and nearly zap out or cry.

Use a heating pad on your insicions or back. You will feel cold. I am still cold, I heard it could be that way for a long time. You will not feel restriction until you get to more solid food, so don't be alarmed if you don't get that full feeling, just keep following the plan.

Welcome.

Thank you so much! You just said all the things I needed to hear!! It's funny you mention crying because that's been a daily event for me. How far out are you now?

Hi everyone, hope you all are doing well. I have a few things I wanted to ask those who are where I am or beyond that may have experience with the same issues.
My day of surgery I was allowed nothing by mouth.
The next day I was allowed 1 oz of Water per hour. Then starting yesterday for 2 weeks I'm allowed full liquids. Yesterday I mixed Protein Shake in my Greek yogurt because I'm told everything must be the consistency of milk and able to roll off the spoon. I maybe was able to take in 4 bites of yogurt, and drank half a Premier Protein and Water all day yesterday. Today I haven't "eaten" anything. I've been sipping water and sucked on 2 sugar free popsicles (surprisingly felt great). What is everyone else doing at this time?
As far as how I feel....I'm in Pain but not really taking much medication. My abdomen is extremely swollen especially my left side which is also bruised and very swollen. I'm dizzy intermittently which tells me I need more water. How long does it take for the swelling in the abdomen to decrease.
I guess I need reassurance that what I'm experiencing is normal.

Hi I was sleeved April 17th and I was basically the same too.. took all day to get down 1 Vitamin water and that was drinking every second lol.. i would put a tiny amount of cream Soup and touch it to my tongue to make sure I wasn’t getting to big a bite.. I got full very fast.. the pain was manageable.. walk walk and walk some more!!!!! It will also help w swelling..it is so worth it!! This post op yuck will pass.. I’m down 73lbs!! Wish I would’ve done this sooner!! Good luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
