JK Rowling and Dumbledore's sexuality

Recommended Posts

I don't know if she meant it the way I interpreted it, but I felt that was basically a criticism of the way the media generally presents homosexuality. You know, gay men being extremely effeminate and obsessed with interior design and lesbians being very butch and masculine. That even though JKR saw Dumbledore as a gay man, she didn't characterize him as the stereotypical gay man. Instead, he was characterized like most REAL gay people, not a caricature of a gay person.

Exactly what I meant. I think in my lifetime I have met only one gay person out of many including my own brother and ex, that could even start to fit the so called stereotype and I met that one in my interior design class lol.

I write, and I always have to assign everything I can to my characters, make them as close to "real people" as I possibly can, so that I can get into their heads. I have to do this in order to try and be realistic about how they would react to situations, what they would say, what they value, etc. And just like every other aspect of what makes us us, from our hair color to our nightmares to our favorite foods to our sexual orientation, it all plays a role in making "us."

But I can understand why people burn these books. I mean, gays threaten the American way of life. See?

On gays being a "threat to the American family": It's prejudice, and it's ignorance, on a level that is staggering at this point in time. But, maybe I'm wrong. Maybe there's a group of gay bandidos. They travel from village to dell. And as night falls, they travel to that cul-de-sac, where only one house stands. And in the window, you see a family, just setting down to their evening meal. And these queers... these queers... don their black hoods, and matching pumps, very tasteful. Sneak up to the house ever so slightly, open the door, and start... FUCKING EACH OTHER IN THE ASS! AND ANOTHER AMERICAN FAMILY... IS DESTROYED!

I guess that gives a new meaning to "his magical wand!" Even though I'm pretty sure I'd not enjoy being hit by his congealeum.

Besides, every married couple is a same-sex couple. Every night, it's the same sex. :)

Dumbledoor's sexuality should not matter to anyone but Dumbledoor and possibly Dumbledoor's partner/s. The sooner society is able to come to terms with that the better off we will be. When I interact with other people at work or in any social setting I shouln't care, nor do I care, who they choose to have sex with. (As long as it's with consenting adults). We have a Gay rights movement because we need it, Gays are discriminated against because they participate in an activity that is none of my business.

The idea that someone would ban a piece of literature because a fictional character is Gay is somehow funny and sad at the same time.

The worst part of this thread however is that now I am worried that some evening my door bell will ring and when I open the door to see who has come a calling I will be confronted with a vision of Dumbledoor wearing the sorting hat ass fucking Cornelius Fudge as the hat shouts Slytherin, Slytherin, Slytherin!!!!

My sentiments exactly!

And its what I tell my daughter when she came home exclaiming so and so is gay!!

"Ok is this a person you are interested on having sex with?"

My Emo daughter: MOM!!! You just dont understand!

"Well if your not going to have sex with them what does it matter to you what their preferences are?"

My Emo daughter:I I but...I... your so lame! *door slam*

Ahh but how many other books have been disallowed in the school systems of America over different but similar differences.

Mark Twains Huckleberry Finn is a good example. Because someone came up with the idea that because slavery was a part of the story it was offensive and racist. Which granted it was. But its also part of our history that is important that our children learn was wrong and that is why its not longer allowed.

I used to know several other so called *classics* that have been removed. But Ive been up now for 30+ hours and cant think straight.

And Wheetsin LOL that one's good.

Oh man I really gotta learn NOT to drink when in the rants and raves section. Or just buy my keyboard a condom. To protect it against the orange Water (whylers on the go stuff) That flew out my nose from laughing so hard. :)

Seriously folks, I don't know what all the fuss is about. I have read the entire HP series and my daughter and I have seen every single movie. We LOVE HP!

Reading the books, I seriously don't see how this revalation is a need for alarm. Most children would not read that much into the books to even realize that Dumbledore was gay.

To those people I say....get over it!

But that is just my honest opinion.

Oh, shit! I didn't think anything could be as funny as Wheet's post but OMG, that is hilarious!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
