HI!!! I love this site! It has helped me make up my mind on what I need to do.

I am looking for a surgeon. I live in Philadelphia PA and in my area only the major medical hospitals are doing the surgery at the aprox cost of $20,000 and up. Obiously I am a self paying pt. Cost is not my major deciding factors but it is something to be considered.

I see SOOOOO many places on the net. I dont mind traveling. And there is Mexico. The Drs at Temple U told me I would be crazy to see anyone in a 3rd world country. Yet Dr Ortiz has done over 4000! There is also Toronto. AHHHHHHH!

I am sooo at a loss. Would love some help! THANKS!:help::angry

Dr. Ortiz did my band back in July. I was leery of Tijuanna at first but his practice is first class all the way. He has more experience and his clinic is cleaner than a lot of hospitals here in the states. Don't let anyone tell you different. I would go there again.......in a heartbeat and I don't hesitate to reccommend him to anyone. You cn rest easy with Dr. Ortiz, knowing you are with one of the best.

Philly is not to far from New York City. I recommend my doctor - Dr. Christine Ren at NYU. She's the best of the best. Her husband is Dr. George Fielding, the surgeon who brought the lap band procedure to the United States.

I had my surgery 3 weeks ago today and I was not in any pain whatsoever after surgery. 2 days after I had surgery, I was walking around Home Depot.

I am looking for a Doctor in Mexico but am very leary of all these patient coordinators. WHO TO TRUST?? They all say the Doc they are representing is the best. I am in desperate need of some guidance from someone who is not in it for the buck. The last coordinator I spoke with said I would need to bring cash with me not a check. Wierd.....Anyways, I don't know where to look anymore and I want the truth. Thank you so much for any responses!:help:

There's also Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver who does the surgery for just under $10,000. I considered him but found a doctor in my city who doesn't charge too much more after considering travel expenses.

There's a long thread about him in the Doctors and Hospitals forum. Here's his site: Lap Band Surgery in Denver Colorado | Lap Band Surgeon in Denver | Gastric Band Surgery Denver | Bariatric Surgery

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
