Help, I’m losing my hair!

Recommended Posts

I’m so scared... my hair had been really growing nicely, and now all of a sudden every time I run my fingers through my hair I have several strands between my fingers, and my brush is full of hair every time I brush my hair. . My hair was looking so pretty and long, and I just don’t want it falling out. I have been using Nioxin Shampoo since before surgery (gastric sleeve and hiatal hernia repair), which was on 9/11/17, and I’ve also been taking Biotin, zinc, B12, and also I take my multi Vitamin twice daily and Calcium, as well as my Iron, omprazole, and also started taking a collagen to help with hair, skin, joints, etc. The collagen is supposed to help hair, but it’s been since I started taking it that I’ve noticed my hair coming loose. Also, I’ve been at a standstill for about two weeks with no weight loss. Please help!

You mention all this stuff you're taking for your hair, but don't mention your Protein intake vs where it's supposed to be

I'm almost 2 months out and I noticed some hair falling out too. Best you can do is keep up with your Protein goal, I think. I also cut my hair short and started using Nioxin. With the short haircut at least I notice not as much comes out when I run my fingers through.

I usually drink one 30g shake, I’ve been eating a Bariatric 15g protein pancake every morning, and eat a chicken breast every day, and then usually a 15g protein snack. I feel like I’m getting my protein intake each day, but I know I haven’t been getting quite as much Water as I should. I really have to force myself to drink water. I have seen where people say take in lots of protein, so I’m trying to get another shake in and hope that helps. :-/

It’s called telogen effluvium and occurs from experiencing abrupt metabolic or hormonal changes like weight loss surgery. Sometimes, despite your best efforts to prevent it, you can’t. You’ll just have to be patient and wait for it to stop.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
