Constipation Question-TMI

Recommended Posts

So I was sleeved on 11/14. I am still on a shakes only diet until next week. Water is hard!!!...but I am doing it. I haven’t moved my bowels since surgery. I’ve been told by a friend that it’s because I don’t have any solids since I’m on liquid only. I’ve tried crushing up a gentle lax and still nothing...is this normal?

My surgeon (and from what I can tell most others) recommend one dose of miralax a day until it works. I had the same issue because I thought they meant one dose period. I'm two weeks out and I still take one dose every other day. My surgeon says this is the new normal for awhile.

If you take any narcotics (anything other than Tylenol) that will contribute to the Constipation. I'm not a doctor, this only reflects my experience. When on doubt call your surgeon's office.

Good luck! Constipation is no joke, and the stomach pain from getting really backed up plus the surgery soreness is pretty miserable.

Yeah that's a really long time.

I was sleeved on the 13th, my first was 12 days later, and second was 6 days after that. That nothing is there because you're on liquid is BS, there's plenty there. Especially if you've been eating anything with calories (and reaching your Protein numbers)

Per my surgeon I was taking colace twice a day, benefiber twice a day and nothing happened. I went out on a limb and took miralax two seperate times (both times led to my only BM).

It's something you need to get ahead of or it'll get worse, and approaching 3 weeks without a BM is scary stuff.

I would absolutely invest in some colace (stool softener) to help make your inevitable experience less uncomfortable

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
