Wish we had a thread we could post for giveaways. I'd much rather give my expensive suits to someone who could use them while losing weight...than to a donation center that only jacks the price tag up and those in need can't afford it.

I own my own business and dress for success and donated some size 16/18s recently only to find them in the center w/ high price tags on them. That's not why I donated them....anyways...

I have a size 12 green pantsuit, button up front top, w/ embelishments. Long sleeves. Pants are lined. If you could use it...it's yours. Just pm me. Folded it will slide into one of those 'flat rate' envelopes at the post office so all you'd have to do is mail me one of these envelopes preaddressed and stamped...I'll send it to you.

In Boston there is a place to drop off suits that get donated to people that were formerly homeless and going for job interviews. They get one suit and after they land the job, they get one or two more. I will try to find the name for you. It is ________ (womens name) closet. There may be something like that in your area. Its a great charity that helps people get their life back together.

Good Luck,

Maureen

I've got a seatbelt extender (for a plane) that needs a good home. Whomever PMs me first with their address, it's yours. I'll even throw in (US domestic) postage because I "borrowed" it from the airline and that'll be my penance!

You might try the women's shelter....ours has a clothing donation center and I don't think they charge. Might be a good place for a lady trying to get on her feet.

You might try a womens shelter or YWCA. Ours has a donation center and there is no charge for the ladies who need new clothing. I think it is great for women who need to get back out into the world after some crisis.

There is a non-profit organization called "Dress for Success" that you can donate your old suits/career separates to Home - Dress for Success

From the website:

"The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. Founded in New York City in 1997, Dress for Success is an international not-for-profit organization offering services designed to help our clients find a job and remain employed. Each Dress for Success client receives one suit when she has a job interview and can return for a second suit or separates when she finds work"

Their website says that their greatest need is for size 12 and larger, which is what bandsters would be donating most likely!

They have affiliates in over 30 states as well as in Canada and the UK.

It seems like a great cause to donate to because they don't just give them the clothing, but they also offer them career guidance and a mentoring program

You know, I never even thought about my clothes. Was concentrating so much on the lap band and diet, forgot that I have to buy interim clothes for after the surgery.

I have lots and lots of work clothes as I wear suits and dress clothes every day except Friday.

When do you know when your clothes are too big? After all, I never wore anything tight or form fitting. I know when they are too big, you look worse than you are.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
